I'm an athlete, as a bowler I don't need too many carbs so I just ate two pieces of chicken and a spoonful of rice for lunch.

Fourteen overs and counting for Jhulan Goswami...

Here's how Tammy Beaumont moved to her second Test half-century a little earlier.

  4. Eng 109-1published at 35 overs

Lovely from Heather Knight, getting down low and sweeping Deepti Sharma gloriously away for four. This has been such a positive performance from England so far.

  5. Eng 104-1published at 34 overs

    Knight 15, Beaumont 51

Shot! Heather Knight eyes up a full delivery from Jhulan Goswami and slams down her bat, opening it up to guide the ball through backward square and into the boundary rope.

Goswami then stands in the middle of the pitch, hands on hips, as a thick edge flies away for a couple of runs.

A bit of turn and bounce from Deepti Sharma again, and while that will excite the Indian bowlers, you do start to worry about the third and fourth innings when you see this on the first day.

The magnificent Ebony Rainford-Brent just wandered in for a chat. I've told her that I'm going to curtesy at her now she's an MBE. She wasn't against the idea.

That's Tammy Beaumont's second Test fifty - she has a high score of 70. She's looked very level-headed, it's been a measured innings and there haven't been any alarm bells for her so far.

    Lovely stuff.

A swept single and Tammy Beaumont jogs through for what has been a very nice half-century, from 99 balls.

We had a chat on TMS at lunch about women's Test cricket. We talk about tactics and maybe players being naive - but if they don't play red-ball cricket, let alone Tests, then how will they develop those skills? It doesn't make sense.

It's a bit of unchartered territory for the bowlers once they get past that 10-over mark because they're just not used to bowling any more than that. Jhulan Goswami could be bowling more than 20 overs today. Surely that's the biggest difference that they've got to get their heads around when they play the longest format.

The indefatigable Jhulan Goswami, tall, loping run-up, watches Tammy Beaumont drill a glorious drive all along the floor to the fielder at mid-off.

Beaumont cuts and misses at a Goswami delivery that keeps low, before she snaffles a single off the last ball of the over.

I'd like to see Deepti Sharma bowling a bit more attacking outside off stump with the field she has set - she bowled too straight there which allowed Tammy Beaumont to get the sweep out.

    Beaumont 47, Knight 8

Tammy Beaumont jabs her bat down on a dipping Deepti delivery, before she dinks her first post-lunch runs down through cover. This outfield does feel very slow.

    One and only! Cheers, Kal.

Well, this is all rather excellent isn't it? Sunshine, Test cricket, a cup of tea... ideal. Here's Deepti Sharma.

  18. Eng 88-1published at 27 overs

A lovely ball first up as Heather Knight is beaten by one outside off. The England captain then helps herself to two runs through the cover region and a couple more through point.

Right, taking you through the rest of this afternoon session is the one and only Amy Lofthouse, who will be live-texting from the County Ground in Bristol.

Right, the players are back out in the middle for the afternoon session.

Goswami will bowl the first over after lunch.
