  1. Eng 15-1published at 3 overs

Jess Kerr ever so kindly bowls a quiet over that concedes just a single to allow me to gather my thoughts after the chaos of the one before.

Lauren Winfield-Hill gets off the mark from the final ball to retain the strike. Heather Knight is yet to face a ball.

My goodness! That is not what you expect.

It is a big leave from Tammy Beaumont and she did not expect that ball to swing back in that much. It is a very strange bit of cricket.

It was completely against the run of play. Sophie Devine normally gets out swing, and that is what Beaumont was expecting, so that is why she's left it.

    Beaumont b Devine 12 (Eng 14-1)

There are two types of leave ...

Where on earth did that come from?! Tammy Beaumont has just nailed three fours from Sophie Devine's first five balls, leaves the last one but late swing takes her off stump!

    Huge wicket for New Zealand.

  4. Eng 14-0published at 1.5 overs

And two more - but it's not great bowling. Beaumont gets a gift she can clip through the leg side, followed by a full toss that is dispatched through cover.

    What a start!

That is a superb shot. She has just leant on it, and it is pure timing.

What a ball to receive as an opener too - you just want to feel bat on ball. That will make Tammy Beaumont feel very good about herself.

  6. Eng 6-0published at 1.1 overs

Sophie Devine's first ball is also Tammy Beaumont's first. And it's the batter that wins this one with a thumping drive past cover for four.

That's some way to get off the mark!

It sounds pretty good off the bat, and Lauren Winfield-Hill is someone who always looks pretty.

She enjoys playing at Worcester, but she'll have in the back of her mind that she needs a score.

  8. Eng 1-0published at 1 over

England's first run comes from the gift of a wide as Jess Kerr loses her line.

Winfield-Hill brings out some elegant cover drives but the ball finds Suzie Bates at cover each time - and she's one who doesn't often misfield.

  9. Eng 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Some gentle inswing from Kerr, Lauren Winfield-Hill drives softly to cover.

New Zealand come together for the standard pre-match huddle while Tammy Beaumont goes through some shadow-batting at the crease.

Jess Kerr takes the first over for New Zealand.

England need to find out their best team. This is a great series to figure that out, and it is a great opportunity.

England's top six is pretty much nailed on, and glued, unless someone suffers from some horrendous form over this series and the Ashes. It is just about working out their bowling formula.

England's captain was named Player of the Match in the last outing, thanks to her 89 to set up their first-innings total.

A middle-order collapse that saw Nat Sciver, Amy Jones and Sophia Dunkley fall for single-figure scores piled the pressure on England. Stating the obvious, that is something they'll certainly want to avoid doing again today.

Danni Wyatt has been in and out of the England ODI side, but she's stuck around, and scored runs in the domestic game.

It is incredible that she is playing her 200th game, most people don't even manage 50.

And away from debuts, it's a 200th match for England for Danni Wyatt. That's a decent achievement, too.

I can also add, given that Anna is a Wales team-mate of mine, that on top of all of that she also spent a fair amount of her time vaccinating people. You could say she's been pretty busy.

There is a debut today at New Road - umpire Anna Harris is standing in her first ODI. She's just 22 years- old, which has given me a slight crisis over what I'm doing with my life. A medical student, she has been combining work in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy games with her role as a healthcare support worker in Cardiff, where she has been treating Covid patients and other wards.

England captain Heather Knight: "I was actually going to bowl today. There is a little bit moisture around, so we'll have to assess conditions very quickly, but I think it'll be quite a good pitch and a quicker pitch than the one we played on here against India earlier in the season.

"We wanted to cover Katherine's batting a little bit, and it means I'll have to probably contribute with the ball a little bit too, which I'm looking forward to.

"I'm delighted for Danni. I've loved laying with her, and she's a real character. Hopefully she has a good day, and puts in a good performance."

Two changes for England. Katherine Brunt is being rested for today - the word is her workload is being managed off the back of a busy summer and with three ODIs in six days. Tash Farrant, meanwhile, will replace Freya Davies. Farrant has had a brilliant summer in The Hundred, where she was beyond impressive for Oval Invincibles.
