NoughtieChildPodcast: Well said Alex Hartley, "if changing batsman to batter makes one more person feel included, it's worth it" - can't wait to hear the discussion in the interview.

Jason Cole: Batters is fine. I mean we don't say Footballsmen do we...

If you are seriously offended by batsmen changing to batters then you need to have a look at yourself. It's not hard. It's a simple change. If making that change makes one more person feel less offended in cricket then that's enough reason for it to happen.

We already use bowler and fielder, we don't use bowlsman and fieldsman.

  3. NZ 28-2published at 8 overs

    Down 6, Satterthwaite 4

Amy Satterthwaite is once again at the crease early, and drives the last ball of Shrubsole's over to the cover boundary with the most supreme elegance.

    Classy player.

Freya Davies just stood there like a stone. She didn't need to move a muscle.

That was as soft as they come. Maddy Green will be disappointed with that.

    Green c Davies b Shrubsole 0 (24-2)

Chipped straight to mid-on. Easy as you like.

Maddy Green is not going to be New Zealand's hero today. It's a nothing ball, a nothing shot that's just easy catching practice for Freya Davies.

I love it when Nat Sciver bowls bouncers with Amy Jones standing up to the stumps. It takes the batter by surprise.

  8. NZ 24-1published at 7 overs

Bit of aggression from Nat Sciver who delivers a bouncer. Lauren Down can easily leave it for Amy Jones to take over her head, but Sciver's just keeping the batter on her toes.

    A maiden.

  9. NZ 24-1published at 6 overs

Looking back at replays of that, Sciver - the thrower - didn't think that was out at all. It's that awkward landing on the dive that's done for Bates there, which looked painful.

Maddy Green, New Zealand's saviour from their victory on Tuesday, has another big job to do.

That was horrid. To add to it, it's pretty dry out there so she'll have a bruised arm from the slide. It really was a great piece of fielding from Amy Jones.

WICKETpublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

Bates run out Sciver 17 (NZ 24-1)

No she didn't! Bates did put in a full-length dive but she kind of stopped in the pitch, jolting a bit which stopped her from getting back in smoothly.

Confusion between the batters meant Bates is stranded halfway down the pitch, sent back and Nat Sciver and Amy Jones combine for the run-out.

I think Bates got back in time. There was a miscommunication and she was flying through the air.

  13. Umpire reviewpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

Has Suzie Bates been run out?! It wasn't the best of dives and she doesn't look pleased.

Oh dear, she's dived too early. I'm afraid that's a pretty horrid piece of fielding.

  15. NZ 22-0published at 5 overs

Oh, Tammy Beaumont! The outfield is seriously fast, but Beaumont keeps up well with a drive from Suzie Bates, chasing it all the way to the boundary - but she dives way too soon and can't save it from going for four.

She stays on the floor for a few seconds with her head in her hands.

That is a much better over from Anya Shrubsole. England could do with a wicket but they'll be pretty happy with the start.

  17. NZ 17-0published at 4 overs

    Bates 11, Down 5

A much-improved over from Anya Shrubsole goes for just a single.

She played the ball just soft enough for it to fall short. She wanted to guide it down to third and got away with that one.

  20. NZ 16-0published at 3 overs

Edged - but short of slip! That's well bowled by Sciver, just hanging the ball outside off stump and drawing Lauren Down into the shot.

But the batter follows it up with a glorious cover drive for four, which are the only runs from the over.
