By not making a duck today, Katey Martin becomes the joint record holder in terms of greatest number of innings per nought in women's ODIs.

She has 84 innings with only two noughts, a duck only every 42 innings, joining Dane van Niekerk and Arran Brindle.

  2. NZ 111-4published at 28 overs

    Satterthwaite 28, Martin 9

Time for the skipper to have a turn of the arm as Heather Knight comes on to bowl.

A full delivery is clipped to the leg side by Sattherwaite and is well fielded by short fine leg.

A single brings Katey Martin on strike, and the batter takes a few steps down the track and slaps Knight through mid-on for four.

    Seven from the over.

To go with that missed review opportunity, England have been sloppy in the field today. Here is a Sophie Ecclestone drop from earlier. Although, in fairness, it was one of the more tougher chances England have spilled...

It seems like a plan by New Zealand to use the sweep shot against Charlie Dean, but she's pushing it through a bit fuller and bringing those chances in.

  4. NZ 104-4published at 27 overs

Oh dear!! England have missed out on a wicket here by opting not to review!

There's an appeal for lbw as Martin mistimes a sweep and the ball deflects off the pad. Captain Heather Knight, bowler Charlie Dean and 'keeper Amy Jones huddle together to discuss whether to review, before deciding not to.

TV replays show three reds. An opportunity missed.

I've not seen a fielder there [at short cover] for Ecclestone before, so it may just be a special plan for Katey Martin, as though they're expecting an uppish drive or a drop-and-run.

  6. NZ 98-4published at 26 overs

Plenty of oohs and ahhs as Ecclestone gives the ball plenty of flight and beats the outside of Katey Martin's bat.

Ecclestone forces the batter onto the back foot with one which keeps straight and a bottom edge sends the ball bouncing into the turf and narrowly over the stumps. Close!

England have a period of time now before they go to Australia. They'll have a bit of time off, then train back at Loughborough, there'll be a fitness block and then onto skills.

    Cheers, Ffion!

At the start of play Alex Hartley said she'd like to see England challenged with a target of 260-280. Well, that's a long way away for New Zealand.

    Sophie Ecclestone to continue.

  9. NZ 96-4published at 25 overs

Amy Satterthwaite sweeps the last ball of the over for four and they'll be wanting a few more of those.

The ball is just keeping a bit low off the spinners and isn't particularly easy to judge.

We're halfway through the first innings which means it's time for me to depart and for Kal Sajad to see you through the next 25.

  10. NZ 90-4published at 24 overs

England are piling on the pressure now, knowing how much is riding on Amy Satterthwaite and that Katey Martin is low on confidence.

Another tidy Ecclestone over goes for just one.

  11. Postpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

Sophie Devine was looking somewhat close to her best. England took her wicket at the perfect time.

  12. NZ 89-4published at 23 overs

What an over from Charlie Dean. The big wicket of Devine and just one run from it.

Katey Martin is the new batter for New Zealand. She is not having a great series with the bat, to say the least.

Charlie Dean looks like she's been playing for years. She's taken to international cricket like she's been doing it all her life. You fancy her to already be on the plane to Australia in the winter.

Devine was already walking off before the decision.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Devine lbw b Dean 41 (NZ 89-4)

    Crashing into middle stump.

The ball has kept low and Devine plays all around it, getting herself trapped on the crease trying to clip it into the leg side.

England are buzzing, that's a huge wicket.

It stayed awfully low. She was caught in between two minds. I think she's out.

  18. New Zealand reviewpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

Sophie Devine is given out on the field this time, lbw off Charlie Dean.

It looks very out. A review of desperation.

  19. NZ 88-3published at 22 overs

No wicket, but another probing over from Ecclestone who also had a chance fall just wide of slip before that lbw review.

I was not expecting it to be missing over the top of the stumps. I thought it might have been pitching outside the line.
