And I totally empathise with Matt's call for food-the last two sessions of play have forced me into a bowl of soup, two sausage rolls, half a pizza, a portion of cottage pie and veg...and a bit of flapjack...

    (I'm not fat I promise...)

    Thanks Matt.

Having been reading your Cricket's biggest robbery stories all afternoon I guess I should begin with one of my own.

Having opened the batting all season in our U13 East Devon Cup run, my captain dropped me to 10 (yes second last!!!) after Thorverton racked up 200 in their 20 overs of the final…

I was deemed too slow for the chase...

Well England are going alright. The pitch is slow and wickets are hard to come by. I need some food. It's time for Harry Everett to take over.

There's some hearty applause from the England dressing room as Joe Root and Zak Crawley walk off. They added 74 runs in that session without the loss of a wicket.

More runs for Zak Crawley. This is quite the flurry. It's another cut shot, this time off Veerasammy Permaul.

That is tea. Well and truly England's day so far.

Zak Crawley is having a nervy few minutes with tea looming. He misses a reverse sweep and West Indies go up for an optimistic lbw appeal.

He's let off the hook a little a ball later when Brathwaite tosses up a wide one. Crawley slaps it to the fence.

  8. Not outpublished at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

Crawley survives. The third umpire decides it was edge, then ground, boot and to hand.

    Probably the right decision.

  9. Postpublished at 19:02 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

    Ooooo.

This is close. After one replay West Indies are celebrating.

The ball bounces, hits bat and boot in close succession.

    Now then.

What has gone on here? West Indies are certain Zak Crawley has been caught. Was it a bump ball?

Crawley isn't sure. Neither are the umpires.

Jam Barrell: This is why it's right Root bats at number three. If he was batting number four we would be about 83-2 now at best, instead of 109-1. In the third innings especially you need your best batter at three.

50 for Rootpublished at 46.1 overs

Yet another fifty for Joseph Edward Root.

He gets there with a cut off Veerasammy Permaul. Root has not put a foot wrong.

    Crawley 70, Root 47

Sir Andrew will send you a thank you in the post, Will. That decision hasn't had much positive feedback in the last few days.

There are 15 minutes to go until tea on this rain-confused day.

Will Green: Without giving the selectors too much credit, the total lifelessness of this pitch must make them feel a little vindicated in not having Anderson and Broad slogging away on it...

"Yep, two," barks Joe Root as he sets off following the five millionth flick of the pads of his career. He looks completely at ease. We all know what will happen now.

Root and Crawley have again demonstrated that if you don’t take risks and bat with care, it’s very difficult for bowlers to dislodge batsmen on this dead pitch. But there’s no room for complacency and England still have to bat at least until lunch tomorrow.

Another clip from Crawley takes this second-wicket partnership to 100. There is applause from the England balcony. Good stuff.

What an unfortunate name you have, David. Commiserations. And I thought I was the only one to share a name with a professional cricketer.

Lovely from Crawley, who flicks Seales off his toes to mid-wicket.

“Biggest robbery” maybe not, but about 40 years ago when I was 16, Joe Root’s grandad caught and bowled me first ball in a practice match. Has it been mentioned since? You bet, every time I’ve seen him.
