    Foakes b Joseph 1 (Eng 314-6)

That one's out, though. It's all happening out there.

This is turning into a fine spell of bowling from Alzarri Joseph, who started rather awfully. Pace off the ball is once again the key as Foakes is deceived and edges the ball onto his stumps, trying to nudge it down to third.

It wouldn't be a Test match without some kind of England collapse, would it?

  3. Not outpublished at 15:07 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

It was close, but Bairstow's scrambling dive saves him.

It was a stunning piece of fielding from Nkrumah Bonner at short third as the batters almost went for a quick single then decided against it.

  4. Umpire reviewpublished at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

Oh, and on that note, has Jonny Bairstow been run out? This looks close.

  5. Eng 312-5published at 82 overs

Ben Foakes is the new batter.

Time for England to just take a little time to reset, focus on keeping the scoreboard ticking for a bit?

    Stokes c Brooks b Roach 13 (Eng 312-5)

Perhaps not. A slower ball so slow that it was practically an off-spinner deceives Ben Stokes completely and he miscues it high in the air for Shamarh Brooks to collect.

  8. Eng 312-4published at 81 overs

First innings centurion Jonny Bairstow joins Stokes in the middle. What a prospect this is - two of England's finest strikers of a cricket ball at the crease with their team needing quick runs for a declaration.

What a time to be alive.

Root was going for runs, but exposing his leg stump too much to Alzarri Joseph.

    Root b Joseph 109 (Eng 310-4)

    Bowled round his legs!

A standing ovation for Joe Root as another faultless knock comes to an end. He was trying to get a move on, play a few more shots, but just went too far across his stumps.

Can't fault him, though. What a player.

Ben Stokes is currently ninth on the list of career Test sixes. He needs one more to draw level with Viv Richards. This scenario seems perfectly set up for him to climb that list even further.

He's already the Englishman with the most sixes, with one more than Andrew Flintoff (from two fewer Tests).

There are two things we should never talk about again. 1. Broad and Anderson's retirement 2. Four day test matches.

Careful, Joe. He pulls Kemar Roach aerially out to square leg but it just drops short of the fielder.

Such is the Ben Stokes effect that I find myself disappointed when he's not on strike - even when it's Joe Root on 109 not out that I'm watching instead.

Rachel T: Stokes coming into bat with 300 on the board. Pinch me someone.

  15. Eng 300-3published at 79 overs

    Lead by 236

Stokes' first ball is a boundary, carved down to third man for an effortless four. He follows it with a single to bring up England's 300.

Hopefully this won't jinx it but I'm looking forward to this partnership.

WICKETpublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2022

    Lawrence c Permaul b Joseph 37 (Eng 295-3)

Ah! A tame dismissal and Dan Lawrence can't believe it.

He was scoring so freely but Alzarri Joseph gets his reward, tempting him with a wide-ish delivery that he carves straight into the hands of the fielder at backward point.

Ben Stokes is the new batter. He can bat a bit too, apparently.

England are pressing on - setting West Indies a total of about 350 off around 50 overs might be what Root has in mind.

  18. Eng 294-2published at 78 overs

    Lead by 230

Dan Lawrence's superb knock continues as he lofts Permaul up and over mid-off for another boundary. He moves on to 37 from 35 balls.

What do we reckon Joe Root's thinking - a lead of 300? More?

  20. Eng 283-2published at 77 overs

We're basically playing an ODI now. Dan Lawrence plays some kind of whirling helicopter type shot for a single before Joe Root attempts a scoop, and Alzarri Joseph nails a yorker that nearly topples Lawrence.

    Great fun.
