Karl Ernest: Jack Leach’s figures would be so much better if Crawley could catch. That’s the third drop this match.

  2. WI 25-0published at 12 overs

    Brathwaite 19, Campbell 5

For the second time in as many Leach overs, Kraigg Brathwaite skips down the pitch. This time he clears mid-off and gets four runs.

Are West Indies going to go for this? That would suggest so.

I'm surprised again, that Woakes bowled from the inswing end and Leach from the other. I expect West Indies to bat normally until tea and then see how they are placed.

  4. WI 21-0published at 11 overs

I still can't believe that Rory Burns dismissal happened. I just remember being in a stunned daze as I typed.

Craig Overton is not Mitchell Starc. John Campbell leaves outside off.

WollC: The cricket equivalent (see 16:50 GMT) is probably losing a wicket the first ball of the Ashes.

Arjun Singh: The cricketing equivalent of the rugby is very simple: it’s rather like every Ashes series down under. We turn up as underdogs, mess it up from the very first ball and leave Australia with our tails between our legs.

    Minimum 61 overs remaining

England will wish they could swap this pitch for one of those they played on in India last year. There's hardly any turn for Jack Leach and Brathwaite is able to clip him away for a boundary.

  7. WI 14-0published at 9 overs

    Target 286

The ball was actually in Crawley's hand but as he hit the floor it popped out. It's a good job Crawley scored that fine hundred because that's the third chance he's put down at slip by my count.

Craig Overton replaces Chris Woakes but can't make the breakthrough in his first over.

  8. dropped catch

Campbell dropped on 1published at 8 overs

    "CAAAAAAAATCH..."

    NO!

John Campbell top-edges a huge swipe of a sweep to Jack Leach. The ball loops over Zak Crawley's head at slip but he can't take the catch running back with the ball dropping over his shoulder.

  9. WI 9-0published at 7 overs

    Brathwaite 7, Campbell 1

If any of you were expecting a thrill-a-minute, all-action cricket then you will be disappointed. Chris Woakes is plugging away but England will have to do this the hard way.

  10. WI 5-0published at 6 overs

But John Campbell is not Gordon Greenidge.

The rugby is going well for England - not. Not sure what the cricket equivalent of that is.

Sir Robin Johnson: Gordon Greenidge would knock these off by tea time against Woakes & Overton.

Spinner Jack Leach is continuing with the ball still new.

  13. WI 5-0published at 5 overs

England are bowling very straight to Kraigg Brathwaite with catchers on the leg side. He's usually a grinder of an opener but we saw him rattle along in the first innings. Not today, so far.

The replays showed he was nowhere near that leg-side appeal earlier in the over.

  14. WI 4-0published at 4.2 overs

England are appealing for a catch down the leg side.

The leg slip fancied it - Woakes less so. Joe Root runs in, asking his men for more information. Ultimately he decides against a review.

    Target 286

    We're ready to go again.

England need 10 wickets. West Indies need another 282 runs.

Chris Woakes has the ball in hand. Play...

Felix may be reading this. I'm sure he'll be happy you remembered.

Mark Wood is going to be a big miss in this innings if England are going to try and force a win. We understand he tried to have a bowl in the nets this morning but had to stop after just six deliveries.

There's plenty of sport going on today - not least my football team who are currently failing to beat bottom of the league at home - but this Test could yet end up the best of the lot.

    A results are possible.

Which is favourite? Probably still the draw.

Of course Keith Barker could have been playing for either side. Always able to whippet through the leg side.
