So far today we've had 10.5 overs, 25 runs and no wickets. I was perhaps a bit naive in thinking we'd see something a tad different today.

Brathwaite has looked as comfortable as ever. Joseph has been cautious.

Not for the first time this tour, we're treated to the sight of Colin the soundman sprinting on to get both middle wickets (the ones with the stump mics and cameras).

  3. rain stops play

    WI 317-4published at 127.5 overs

Joe Root turns to magic man Dan Lawrence to break up this partnership.

Two runs from five deliveries and... we're off for rain.

There are some very ominous-looking clouds away to the east... think we'll be off soon.

Leach got one to rip outside Brathwaite's outside edge, which shows just what happens when he bowls in the right area. There will be no-one more frustrated than Leach.

  6. WI 315-4published at 127 overs

    Trail by 192 runs

Oohs. aahs and several England heads in hands. Another terrific Jack Leach delivery which spins, bamboozles Alzarri Joseph and nestles into Ben Foakes' gloves. How did that not find the edge?

This partnership is now worth 31.

  7. WI 313-4published at 126 overs

I might start live texting Joe's grass growing instead.

Brathwaite has every faith in Joseph by clipping Mahmood's second ball of the over for a single. Joseph ducks and defends the rest of the over.

We've just cut the lawn for the first time this year. I love test cricket, but watching the grass grow again might be more fun than this damp squib of a match. Poor poor pitch.

    Joe, Esher.

  9. WI 312-4published at 125 overs

Leach seems to have got into a better rhythm this morning, finding bounce and turn from a decent length. But Joseph proves his worth as nightwatchman by easily blocking out a maiden.

There was a smattering of applause from West Indies fans as the follow-on was officially saved, though it's looked safe for a long time.

  11. WI 312-4published at 124 overs

Saqib Mahmood came ever so close (about an inch or so, to be exact) to claiming his first Test wicket yesterday. The Lancashire seamer bowled Jermaine Blackwood with a cracking yorker, only for it to be called a no-ball.

Mahmood tempts Brathwaite with a wide line and the opener welcomes the invitation, throwing his hands into the shot for four down to third man.

Eight from the over. A poor one from Mahmood.

West Indies have avoided the follow-on, by the way.

This is a difficult field for Leach to understand with a leg slip. He should be trying to bowl at Joseph's off stump - turning the ball away to find the right-hander's outside edge. There were two instances yesterday of a catch going to a vacant gully. Field settings determine the line that the bowler will bowl. They should be encouraging him to bowl off stump rather than leg stump.

  13. WI 304-4published at 123 overs

Beauty from Leach! Pitches outside leg, turns back sharply and beats Joseph's outside edge. A tricky delivery for any batter, let alone a nightwatchman.

    Maiden.

  14. WI 304-4published at 122 overs

Matt Fisher bowled a tidy line yesterday but hasn't quite been on the money this morning. A short and wide delivery is slapped for four by Brathwaite.

  15. WI 300-4published at 121 overs

    Trail by 207 runs

Brathwaite is forward and an inside edge deflects off the bat and loops out of reach of short leg. West Indies take the single, bringing up their 300.

  16. WI 299-4published at 120 overs

    Brathwaite 116, Joseph 8

Joseph plays an edgy four which pierces the field and races down to the third-man boundary. Zak Crawley is on the chase but his feet get stuck in the turf as he attempts the dive. A few overs in and Crawley already needs a trip to the laundrette.

  17. WI 295-4published at 119 overs

    Trail by 212 runs

Jack Leach bowls the second over of the day. The spinner was very inconsistent yesterday. A few good deliveries but many wayward ones.

He gifts Brathwaite with a leg-side delivery which earns the opener two runs.

  18. WI 293-4published at 118 overs

Fisher is prim and proper. He has the look of a man who would be well placed in The Apprentice, vying to be Lord Sugar's business partner.

Brathwaite nudges to mid-wicket for a single. Joseph, comically, looks to duck a ball which is not all that short and looks a bit surprised when it strikes his handle and trickles into the leg side.

  19. WI 292-4published at 117.1 overs

Four. Fisher strays down the leg side and Brathwaite clips the first delivery of the morning down to the fine-leg boundary.

Joe Root leads his men out to the middle. West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and nightwatchman Alzarri Joseph follow.

If there is any chance of this match not petering out into a draw, England need a terrific session.

Matthew Fisher to bowl the first over of day four.
