England debutant Saqib Mahmood who took 2-58: "Long couple of days in the dirt. It's my first red-ball game since December. I'm glad to get off the field today."

On taking a wicket off a no-ball on day three: "I was fine the whole time on the front line then a bit of effort ball trying to get the yorker in. I was hugging Joe Root and saw the umpire stick his arm out. I was pretty gutted at the time. Thought I let myself and the boys down. I tried to get out of my head, which was quite tough. But I tried to crack on."

On then taking his first Test wicket by dismissing Jason Holder on day four: "The shot came out of nowhere. It was a great catch from Fish [Matthew Fisher]. There wasn't a massive celebration from me. I was looking at the wicket to see where my foot landed and if the umpire would say anything. There was just a bit of relief."

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BT Sport

England negotiated what they needed to do tonight. They can set up tomorrow in the first hour or hour and a half. They need to score just enough number of runs to dangle the carrot and make West Indies believe they can get it.

At one point it wasn't inconceivable to think Kraigg Brathwaite would still be batting at the close of play. The West Indies opener was finally dismissed by Jack Leach for 160 in 489 balls and a whopping 710 minutes.

Only Brian Lara has batted for longer, in terms of minutes, for West Indies in Test cricket.

This is nicely set up. England will need to bat a bit longer than they did in Antigua, therefore having fewer overs at the West Indies, but there is more in this pitch for the spinners than there was in the first Test.

England's bowlers will be tired - not least Jack Leach, who bowled 70 overs. It could be an interesting final day.

  6. Close of playpublished at 15 overs

    Eng 40-0

The reader is placed on the top of middle stump. The bails are then put back on and the umpire says "It's too dark for pace" ... Kraigg Brathwaite is happy for that to be it for today.

Close of play. England lead by 136 runs.

With Chris Woakes padded up as nightwatchman, and just two overs to go, the umpires take a light reading. Is this the end of day four?

  8. Eng 40-0published at 15 overs

Another change in the bowling as on comes Jason Holder. As you expect with the tall seamer, he bowls on the fourth stump, finds good swing and cramps the batters for space. Tidy line and length. Maiden.

  9. Eng 40-0published at 14 overs

    Lead by 136

Not content with having batted out 489 deliveries, Kraigg Brathwaite brings himself on for a bowl.

Crawley takes a single. Lees, chewing vigorously on a piece of gum and doing a 360 to eye up the gaps, takes four more runs from the over.

  10. Eng 35-0published at 13 overs

    Lead by 131

Nice work from Jermaine Blackwood in the deep, sprinting round the rope to prevent a Crawley boundary.

But there's no stopping this. Crawley pummels Seales down to the long-on boundary for four.

    Ten from the over.

  11. Eng 25-0published at 12 overs

    Lees 13, Crawley 11

Permaul's unpredictability requires a very watchful approach from England. Crawley pulls to mid-wicket for a single before Lees confidently defends the remaining five deliveries.

We have five overs to go.

  12. Eng 24-0published at 11 overs

    Lead by 120 runs

Seales has one nipping away from the right-handed Crawley who plays inside the line. The seamer then has one springing up from back of a length, taking the opener by surprise.

While the chances of this game being anything other than a draw are slim, England will still feel a result is possible. Especially if they get through the close of play today with both Crawley and Lees still there.

  13. Eng 23-0published at 10 overs

Lees skews a single into the off side, before Crawley pushes towards extra-cover for one more.

England's openers have settled down a tad after a tense start.

  14. Eng 21-0published at 9 overs

    Lead by 117 runs

Jayden Seales comes on to bowl. The 20-year-old playing in his sixth Test. I won't even tell you what I was doing at 20.

A leg-side delivery is flicked by Crawley for four. Easy pickings.

We have eight overs to go today, if light allows.

  15. Eng 16-0published at 8 overs

Not for the first time this series, Permaul completes a very inconsistent over. Having bowled a couple which are far too short, he delivers a beauty which is tossed up, turns and beats both Lees and Da Silva behind the stumps.

The party stand is noticeably emptier than the first three days - will be interesting to see how many turn up tomorrow, even with cheaper ticket prices.

    Minimum 10 overs remaining today

The good and bad of Alex Lees.

Good: Roach offers some width and the opener duly latches on, cutting through backward point for four. Terrific shot.

Bad: Lees plays and misses at one which slightly shapes away from him.

  18. Eng 8-0published at 6 overs

    Lead by 104 runs

Better over for England. Working the ones and twos off Permaul.

Joe Root is scribbling something away on his notepad as a shady looking Jonny Bairstow peeps over his shoulder.

  19. Not outpublished at 4.6 overs

    Eng 3-0

Not for the first time, the umpire gets it wrong! Again, to the naked eye and on the replay it looked out. But replays show it to be going high and wide of leg stump.

  20. England reviewpublished at 4.6 overs

    Eng 3-1

Not what England needed! Kemar Roach has Zak Crawley trapped in front. The lbw decision is given. Crawley does not look overly confident in his decision to review.
