At least England pitched it up to the new batsman. Yesterday when Smith came out Stokes bowled bouncers.

There is still something in this pitch. That was a very good delivery. Cameron Green has not had a very good series with the bat.

The game takes a little more of a twist.
Green b Stokes 2 (Aus 294-5)
Yes, they can! Ben Stokes strikes at a crucial time once again.
Lovely full delivery from Stokes, perfect ball to a new batter and it just clips his off stump.
A disappointing start with the bat for Cameron Green in this series.
Cameron Green is the new batter. He really is rather tall.
He got a golden duck at The Gabba. Can England take another before the break?

That is a big wicket for England.

Head was beaten in the flight. He has yorked himself.
Head b Root 18 (Aus 291-4)
Bowled him! Joe Root bowls a full delivery that's close to being a full toss and out of nowhere, Travis Head has just completely missed it.
The previous ball he'd clonked over Root's head for four, so perhaps he was trying to do the same. Root is pumped.
Steve Smith loves batting against England, doesn't he?

An ugly shot. Smith was trying to biff it down the ground.
A short ball from Stokes flies over Jos Buttler's head off the top edge to take Steve Smith to yet another half century.
It wasn't a convincing shot and Stokes grimaces in frustration, but Australia's stand-in captain survives it.

I am sure Australia would like to have a crack with the new pink ball in the evening.
Steve Smith is on the back foot and cuts Joe Root away for four more.
England must be desperate for this lunch break. It's been a tough day and a half.
The short ball tactic is a strange one at this stage to Travis Head, who took England apart at The Gabba. The ball isn't even that old, either.
At least they're never boring, this England team.

Former Australia captain on Test Match Special
It looks like there's going to be a short-pitched bowling episode from Stokes again.
Smith 41, Head 11
Ben Stokes is into the attack and his first ball goes for four and his second is a wide.
Joe Root bowls a decent first over that nearly brings a stumping, but Travis Head is able to get back in time.
There is a bit of turn and bounce for Root. Nathan Lyon will like the look of that, worryingly.

That was a 42-year-old's fielding from Stuart Broad. It didn't go near to the boundary.
Steve Smith scampers a three to Stuart Broad in the outfield, who looks a bit weary to say the least.
Any of our 4am readers still about? How are you all holding up?
I guess one positive for England is that if the pitch is doing a bit, at least they don't have to face Pat Cummins on it.
But if you bowl short and wide like Chris Woakes has just done, the ball will keep finding the boundary as Travis Head emphatically proves.
