Thanks for joining us for a very strange day four of the second Ashes Test in Adelaide.

England look set to go 2-0 down after captain Joe Root was dismissed by Mitchell Starc off the final ball of the day, leaving them 82-4.

The tourists needs a highly improbable 468 to win, or bat out the entire final day to salvage a draw.

Matthew Henry's report of all the action from day four is here.

The Test Match Special podcast will be available later here.

There are highlights on the BBC Sport website and app.

And there will be full highlights available to watch on BBC iPlayer at 18:00 GMT.

Join us from 03:30 GMT to see how this one pans out. Cheers.

Joe Root battled away, including taking that painful blow, until Mitchell Starc struck with what turned out to be the last ball of the day.

Dawid Malan bowled his leg-breaks today and took his first two Test wickets.

Ben Stokes also took a wonderful catch in the deep to remove Travis Head. We've talked about England being poor in the field but they have taken some fine catches in this Test.

There was no change in Rory Burns' technique. He hangs on in there. He has got the character, but what does let him down is his technique.

There are exceptions to the tried and trusted technique - such as Steve Smith - but to most cricketers, if you've got a creaky technique, then you will perish more often than not.

England don't want to drop Burns - Zak Crawley has had no cricket. They've invested a lot of time and energy in Burns. I'm sure they'll play him in Melbourne.

Rory Burns successfully overturned a caught behind decision, but did not last too much longer.

Dawid Malan and Rory Burns looked increasingly comfortable with a partnership of 44 until Michael Neser struck.

I think Haseeb Hameed just got a really good ball today. The angle that Jhye Richardson bowls at, when he also gets that extra bounce off a length, that's very tough to play.

When the tears clear, he might think that retiring hurt was a better option, but he would have wanted to do his bit as captain.

Poor old Joe Root. You have throw-downs and often don't wear much in the way of padding, but you should. It's still the same hard ball and it can catch you all over the body. To be hit again like that, by Mitchell Starc at 90mph, it takes a lot of guts to carry on. He was clearly in pain and couldn't run properly.

This can't continue. Silverwood has to go. He's had more than 12 months to assemble and coach a side to 'bat and bat' and he's completely failed to deliver. England are utterly predictable in their collapses and that is totally the fault of Silverwood.

This actually began as one of England's better days. If Root had still been there at the close, they would have said it was one of their better days of the series.

One hopes that the rest of the series will be able to continue without this. There will be tighter protocols for the players.

Not want England wanted. They fought so hard in this last session. Starc bowled fuller, drawing him into the shot.

It was full, outside off stump and Joe Root was tempted into an edge that Alex Carey snaffled up gratefully.
