That's a decent first over from Stuart Broad, who looks fired up. Jimmy Anderson is on from the Cathedral End.

Jack Rule: Great!! Just as the day couldn’t get any worse we now lose the skipper and our only Spinner!
Stuart Mitchell: Hope of waking up to: Australia bowled out inside first session, and England making good progress towards the win. Reality: Aus declared with 500 run lead and England at least 5 down in reply for about 60.
Wow! Nearly the perfect start for England as Australia go for a quick single but Haseeb Hameed throws the stumps down with a brilliant throw from point. Marcus Harris is just home, but that was fine work by Hameed.
Marcus Harris and nightwatchman Michael Neser are the not out batters who follow the England team, led by Ben Stokes in Joe Root's absence, out onto the Adelaide Oval. Stuart Broad is all set to bowl the first over, here we go...
My cat looked very confused as I hauled myself out of my pit earlier, and I tried to explain why but he wasn't having it.
Anyway, I'm all set with my Strength Six coffee (the caffeine version of the Marshall amps that go up to 11), so let's do this.

My word, things feel like they are going from bad to worse for England. We'll share any more news on Joe Root when we have it.
He would have got through quite a few overs today aside from leading the team, so it'll be seam all the way for the foreseeable.
Just when you thoughts things couldn't get any worse...
England captain Joe Root will not be on the field at the start of play today after being hit in the abdomen during throw downs in the warm-up.
He is currently being assessed by the England medical team.
Not as savagely hot as it has been - but not the rain that had been predicted in some quarters.

"To lose eight wickets for 86 runs, be all out for 236 and bowling again with Australia building their massive lead is inexcusable."
Aggers has plenty more to say in his column summing up day three, but that's pretty much it in a nutshell, isn't it?
If you can bear it, take a look at some of the day three highlights - maybe through your fingers or from behind the sofa.
Good morning!
There have been some grim days in this Ashes series, but yesterday was probably the grimmest so far.
The bald facts are that Australia lead by 282 runs with two full days to play, and they will be looking to grind away today before getting England back at the crease under the lights for a good chunk of the final session.
