Well done Jos Buttler. Who knew the white ball king could drop anchor like this. Could he do it?

England have dragged this match into the final session. There are 26 overs (at least) remaining. Have a brew, Jos. You've earned it.

Steve Cider: The fact Buttler & co can stand up to that bowling on a 5th day and a new ball makes the rest of the batting performance look even worse.
Jonathan Gregory: With the number of runs Jos Buttler cost with the drops compared to runs that he made, is it worth bringing in Jonny Bairstow for the 3rd test?
Matthew Norman: Regardless of the result in this test (England obviously losing) Buttler's efforts to salvage a draw have to be commended. But you have to think if he'd have held his catches it may have been a different game. May.
I think you would call it off-spin, but in the loosest possible sense. Head's moustache makes him look like David Boon. He bowls like Clint Boon.

Travis Head is having a bowl. That tells me Australia have basically given up.

There was a big inside edge on that.

Not. Out.
Back to your mark, Garry.
Eng 180-9
No way.
Even for Stuart Broad, this has to be reviewed. He's surely hit this?
Nathan Lyon knows it too.

Jos Buttler has batted for 185 balls for 25 in what feels like a hopeless cause. People should remember that when there's question marks over his place.
I've just remembered it's our Zoom Christmas quiz tonight. I'm fairly certain the call has been set to last until 11pm. There's no way I'll last that long. Green has a silly point and a short leg for Buttler, who is now surrounded like a celebrity at an airport. Jos Blocker.

That is now six catches for Steve Smith for the second time in three Test matches against England. He has now taken 30 catches against England since the start of the 2017–18 Ashes series

Stuart Broad is showing a defence some small nations would be proud of. Big stride, bat and pad together, no breaching this fort. Never in doubt.

England can't seem to put it all together with the bat. If they could just knit together these little partnerships then a total of 350 or 400 is possible.
I completely disagree, Tuffers. Broad knows what he's doing.
With England eight wickets down, the interval has been delayed by 15 minutes.
I swear they just make it up as they go along.

Stuart Broad looks like he could be out every ball. He's all at sea. I think Jos Buttler is going to have to face every ball here!

In fairness to Stuart Broad he got a big stride in.

Missing! Missing! Missing!
Take that you Aussies.
Never, ever doubt Stuart Broad's batting.
Eng 180-8
First ball! Thick edge, Travis Head at gully gets his fingers to one that flies.
Next ball goes through everything and passes above middle stump. Two byes.
Next ball Broad shoulders arms and is hit on the pad. Review...

Beautifully pitched and Ollie Robinson had to play at it. Nathan Lyon used his natural variation and that was a good reaction catch from Steve Smith down by his knee. That was an encouraging innings and will be a building block in his career.
