You can see that Jimmy Anderson is trying to bowl much fuller than he did at Adelaide, but that does sometimes present scoring opportunities.

That was a gift for Marcus Harris.

  3. Aus 4-0published at 0.5 overs

England's all-time leading wicket-taker James Anderson begins by slanting the ball across the left-handed Marcus Harris, who is content to leave and defend when required in the first over of Australia's innings.

The fifth delivery and Anderson bowls a little too straight to Harris who just leans into the shot and caresses the ball to the boundary for four.

    Ominous.

If Australia get through these 22 overs unscathed, England will be in all sorts of trouble.

Marcus Harris and David Warner have swaggered out to the middle, bristling with confidence.

England will be bitterly disappointed after two sessions but they have to take their chances with the ball. They absolutely have to catch well now. If opportunities come, they have to take them.

I don't think we can blame anyone but Pat Cummins! He did the damage in the first session and I don't think any of the other bowlers bowled as well as he did.

England were resolute, trying to find a balance between attack and defence and they didn't quite manage it.

Pat Cummins has set a very niche Test record today.

He has taken three or more wickets in 18 Test matches in a row - the most consecutive Tests to take three or more wickets in a match.

First day of the Test match it's just been relentless pressure from Australia and England have folded. Australia put the ball in right area and asked England if they could handle it but the answer was no. Senior players like Joe Root and Jos Buttler have just had brain fades.

It felt like a bowl first day from the very beginning and Australia used it perfectly.

Root, Malan and Stokes offered some resistance again but it was a precession after that. They will be so disappointed.

Even if you get put in to bat on day one, you expect more than 185.

    Robinson c Boland b Lyon 22

    England rolled for 185.

Ollie Robinson has his dancing shoes on and he advances down the pitch to Nathan Lyon and sends it skyward. Scott Boland takes a steepling catch at deep mid-wicket.

Some light relief for you on what has otherwise been a chastening day for England.

Jack Leach whacked Nathan Lyon for a six straight down the ground - it was a glorious shot.

We know what the game plan is going to be now. Mitchell Starc won't have liked being slogged like that.

Back-to-back boundaries for Ollie Robinson off Mitchell Starc.

First up he gives himself room and carts Mitchell Starc for four through midwicket. Next ball it's a deft glance between third slip and gully.

Jack Leach showed a bit of aggression against Nathan Lyon in the last over but Lyon bounces back and wins the battle.

There is a bit of bounce out there for the spinner.
