This end is ever so slightly downhill, which might explain why Jack Leach has bowled fuller with his first couple of deliveries. Leach needs to pull his length back a foot or so.

  2. Aus 283-5published at 101.4 overs

A change of ends for Jack Leach but it's the same result for Usman Khawaja who picks up a full length ball and drives beautifully through the covers for four. That shot oozed class.

Three balls later Leach over pitches again and the result is the same.

It is like being out in the subcontinent out there today - it is very warm and sweaty.

  4. Aus 273-5published at 101 overs

Joe Root brings himself on. Alex Carey skips down the pitch and lofts the England skipper back over his head for a two-bounce four. Carey attempts a reverse sweep off the final ball of the over but England's fielding is sharp and they prevent the single.

If I was the team batting fourth in this match, I'd be concerned at some of the deliveries which have kept low or leaped at the batters. Although England might be batting second and third, knowing England.

Jimmy Anderson is certainly asking questions of Alex Carey.

  7. Aus 268-5published at 99.3 overs

James Anderson gets one to spit off the pitch and strikes Alex Carey on the forearm. The Aussie wicketkeeper shrugs it off before taking guard and preparing to see off the rest of the over.

That was the most entertaining part of yesterday!

Jack Leach signed somebody's bald head yesterday.

  10. Aus 267-5published at 99.0 overs

Usman Khawaja takes a huge swipe at a ball drifting down leg side from Jack Leach but is unable to make contact.

The Aussie left-hander, unbeaten on 67, has Leach scampering and diving to save a single off the final ball of the over but he is unable to prevent the run.

The game is simmering along without much happening at the moment.

  12. Aus 264-5published at 98.0 overs

Back-to-back maidens for England as James Anderson follows up Jack Leach's set of six dots with six of his own.

Leach is doing a job of sorts, bowling tightly and economically, but it's wickets England want here.

  14. Aus 264-5published at 97.0 overs

Jack Leach's whites are filthy. Both his knee and his backside are covered in dirt. Despite the disheveled look he manages to notch up a maiden.

James Anderson doesn't seem very happy - he just had a word with the umpire.

That is the length, or maybe slightly fuller, that he needs to be bowling.

  16. Aus 264-5published at 96.0 overs

James Anderson is plugging away in search of England's sixth wicket. The final ball of his over lifts off the pitch and Alex Carey is rapped ever so slightly on the handle as he pulls out of the shot.

England just have to make sure the momentum from those two wickets doesn't get sucked out by a partnership.

Alex Carey has looked dicey, while Usman Khawaja has looked solid.

  18. Aus 262-5published at 95.0 overs

Jack Leach is relatively nonthreatening, but miserly, to Usman Khawaja who is able to pick up a couple of runs off the England spinner.

Mark Wood gave it everything in that spell and is given a break by Joe Root, who turns to the left-arm spin of Jack Leach.

  20. Aus 260-5published at 94.0 overs

Stifled appeals as James Anderson strikes Alex Carey on the pad, but there was plenty of bat on that and England's interest in a review quickly fizzles out.
