Steve Smith works a single then takes his glove off to examine his left hand. I think he's OK.
Nasty, nasty, nasty.
Steve Smith tries to get out of the way of a Ben Stokes short ball and gets whacked on the hand in a really awkward fashion. They are so painful.

Jack Rule: What is the point of having a spinner if you are not going to give him field to bowl to? I remember both Graeme Swann and Phil Tufnell saying, if you set defensive fields straight up you are showing you have no trust in your spinner. You have to bluff the opposition.
Khawaja 27, Smith 37
Every so often, Jack Leach just drifts onto Usman Khawaja's pads, and allows him to tickle away a single and break the rhythm that Leach is settling into.
Lunch will be at 01:30 GMT, by the way, for you hardy souls planning your mid-match nap.
That's what Ben Stokes is aiming for - short, into the body, and a flinching Khawaja gets smacked on the shoulder, with the ball dropping just short of Haseeb Hameed at short leg.
Hello!
Usman Khawaja backs away in Stuart Broad-esque fashion and tries to hoick Ben Stokes over the head of the keeper. That's, er, an interesting choice.
There's leaves, and there's Steve Smith leaves.
Some turn for Jack Leach as he bowls to Usman Khawaja, but Australia are still able to nab an easy single.

It's very much like plan A wasn't working, plan B and C didn't either so let's try plan D.
It's not been a great morning for England, this.

Ian: My concern about the Sydney Test match is that Australia look capable of scoring 350 on the play thus far. I can't see England scoring more than 250 which probably leaves England having to bat all day on the fifth day to save the match.
Khawaja 24, Smith 36
Neil Wagner makes this tactic look very easy.
England have found out in this series that it isn't, as Usman Khawaja ducks his first two bouncers then rolls a third away with a very well-placed pull.

This could be a stalemate between Usman Khawaja and Ben Stokes. I don't think he'll take it on.
I think Usman Khawaja is about to get some short ball treatment...
I think they are going to try something different, with Ben Stokes coming on for a bowl.

It looks a little bit too easy for Australia. England's bowlers haven't really created any pressure. Steve Smith and Usman Khawaga have got through without much trouble so far, and have even taken a few risks. England need to try something different.
Jack Leach opts to stay round the wicket to Usman Khawaja, and it's way too easy for the batter to stand tall and flick him for an easy single.
