We used to play credit card roulette on tour. Everyone would put their credit card inside a napkin and the waiter or waitress would pick a card out, one by one. The last one there had to pay the entire bill. I've seen people doing cartwheels around fancy restaurants when their card was pulled out.

We're having a chat about what the equivalent would be of England drawing this. So far we've got:

    - Being 6-0 down at half-time and not conceding in the second half

    - When San Marino score for the first time in 27 games

Just a single from Scott Boland's fourth over of the morning, with Zak Crawley working the ball off his pads through mid-wicket.

England's openers have survived 30 minutes this morning. They have been batting for 80 minutes now.

    I agree, Charlie.

Haseeb Hameed needs to be judged in more conditions than just Australia, where his low hands were bound to struggle with the bouncier pitches.

He, at the very least, deserves a place on England's tour of West Indies in March.

Charlie: Might be unpopular and I am sure he will now get out and it will be my fault but whatever the restructure to come, England should definitely stick with Hameed, he was nicknamed the baby Boycott for a reason and he's still young but with the right temperament.

It's a finer edge and it's low to the right of Carey. He almost dived too far and it hit the heel of his palm. Hameed gets a life while he's still in single figures. Hopefully that is significant for him.

  7. dropped catch

Hameed dropped on 9published at 17 overs

England are getting a bit of luck.

Haseeb Hameed is stuck on the crease and Pat Cummins draws a thin edge. This is Alex Carey's catch, unlike the one in the first innings, but he again dives too far really and it hits him on the wrist and falls to the ground.

I'm not just saying this, but Tim Paine would catch that.

*Cue jokes about Manchester City*, which as a City fan wouldn't do you many favours!

The attendances at this Test have been bitterly disappointing. I didn't know if it was Covid protocols initially but it doesn't appear to be.

A lot of Australians have come dressed as empty green seats this morning. It is overcast but the weather is nowhere near as bad as we feared.

Ooh! Zak Crawley is squared up and drawn into a defensive poke by Pat Cummins.

There are appeals for caught behind by the hosts, and then a chat about a review but they wisely opt against it.

    There was no bat.

Barnaby: Any restrictions on what number Bairstow/Buttler can bat after being off the field yesterday?

No, Barnaby. Because they were struck by the ball, the umpires saw the injury occur. Soft tissue injuries, like what Ben Stokes has, and the rule is different - hence why Stokes fielded yesterday.

  13. Eng 36-0published at 16 overs

    Back-to-back maidens.

England won't be too fussed about that - the win, while technically possible, is a long, long shot.

Most importantly they have survived five overs this morning - 93 to go.

Virtually every weather app you consult says that it is raining. That's not the case at the moment.

That zip and pace you associate with Cummins isn't there. It suggests a slightly tired nature.

Pat Cummins' bowling in this innings: 0% full, 53% good length and 47% short. 6 overs, 1 maidens, went for 19 runs, took 0 wickets with an economy of 3.17.
  16. Eng 36-0published at 15 overs

A maiden from Pat Cummins. He wasn't that threatening last night really, and there haven't been any heart in mouth moments from his two overs this morning.

I've just seen two women tucking into ice creams - it is 10:15am in Sydney! I can't help but admire that. The cones are pink too, for the McGrath Foundation.

Scott Boland is so consistent. Has he bowled a single bad ball in his two Tests?

Just a single from the over, with Zak Crawley working down to fine leg.
