The players are taking drinks at the fall of that wicket.

We're half way through an extended two and a half hour morning session and England are 74-2.

There are still 82.1 overs left with captain Joe Root walking out to the middle.

Malan looked surprised. I'm not sure why. He's missed a ball he should have seen a lot of. Lyon bogs him down too much and he doesn't look to score off him.

That's gone straight through Malan. Another left-hander falls to Nathan Lyon.

    Malan b Lyon 4 (Eng 74-2)

    An awful shot.

Dawid Malan is stuck on the crease and doesn't move his feet. He is on leg stump and that leads him to believe there is width on offer, and he looks to cut away, but it goes straight through him and crashes into off stump.

That is a pretty tame dismissal, I'm afraid.

Crawley seems to find the boundary with ease.

Crawley is the future of England. You would want to go a long way with him before you drop him. You don't want to talk technique with him. You just have to keep his confidence up.

  7. Eng 72-1published at 27 overs

    Crawley 59, Malan 3

Zak Crawley is one hell of a timer of a cricket ball. Pretty much every boundary he hits is absolutely beautiful on the eye.

He flicks Mitchell Starc beautifully to mid-wicket boundary, before he chops into the ground and over point for four more.

He has scored really fluently in this innings, without taking any risks.

Relly AB: I want Crawley and Burns to open together. Not least because they sound like a cool 70s detective duo.

  9. Eng 64-1published at 26 overs

    Crawley 51, Malan 3

Dawid Malan plays out a maiden from Nathan Lyon.

There hasn't been much there for Lyon yet today. The majority of the rough may be a bit fuller than Lyon would like to be.

Crawley can hurt you. We've seen it in this innings in particular where if you bowl a ball that is sightly loose, he will put you away. Hameed has got a reasonably solid defensive game but as his innings goes on I think he's less likely to score off you. Crawley always has a very good scoring rate.

  12. Eng 64-1published at 25 overs

    Crawley 51, Malan 3

Zak Crawley gets in a little bit of a tangle and inside edges on his thigh pad, but the pad falls harmlessly to the ground in front of him.

    We've had 14 of the day's 98 overs now.

Andy Kerr: To be fair, Hameed’s job today was to use up overs, not necessarily to score runs. He lasted 58 balls, which was decent, actually.

Haseeb Hameed was also given a life before he fell for nine.

He has now got six single-figure scores in a row.

Just look how dominant Zak Crawley's leg-side game has been in this innings.

The run map shows Zak Crawley scored 50 with 8 fours, 1 three, 2 twos, and 11 singles for England

This is Crawley's sixth score of 50 or more in Test cricket.

It is also his second half-century in 18 innings since his double century against Pakistan.

  17. Eng 62-1published at 24 overs

Nathan Lyon has replaced Scott Boland for the hosts, by the way. How England play the spinner today will probably go a long way to deciding the result of this game.

Just that Zak Crawley single from the over.

The 23-year-old has a bright future in an England shirt in my opinion. Stick with him.
