I nearly got a pair against England once. I never liked being on nought. I tried to get off the mark as quickly as possible.

Joe Root always looks to be busy and score freely, but seeming he is on a pair he looks even more keen to today.
He actually looks a bit frantic, as he contemplates an upper before withdrawing the bat at the final second.

Crawley finds the boundary regularly and he finds it easily. He's a very good placer of the ball. If you're a selector, the first thing you're thinking is this guy can really bat.
If he's struggling, I'd go to him and ask him why. Forget technique, he's got a good technique and one that will work in Test cricket. If he's not making runs it must be a confidence thing, so find out why he thinks he's struggling.

That's such a lovely shot from Crawley. Beautiful timing. He is really taking his opportunity here.
Zak Crawley, again!
It is full from Cameron Green but Crawley punches it past mid on and away to the boundary again.
He's up to 72 off 91 balls. It has been a superbly timed and aesthetically beautiful innings so far.
Ben Stokes, with his side injury, and Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler with their finger injuries are the next three in.
All will bat, but how they are feeling is an unknown.

It's the walking wounded to come in next for England.
Risky from Zak Crawley or good running? He drops the ball back down the pitch and it is straight to Nathan Lyon at mid on, but it does dribble there a bit and he has to dive and throw the ball in one motion.
Crawley would have got home, even with a direct hit, so we'll say good running.
A change for Australia.
Nathan Lyon got his man and he is immediately replaced by Scott Boland.

Crawley 67, Root 0
Zak Crawley follows the boundary with three more runs through the covers. He got high on his toes and cuts away nicely.
Hmmm, Joe Root. He back-foot drives a very wide delivery into the ground and to point - he has fallen to similar deliveries in this series. He then completely mis-times a pull. Steady, Joe.

This should suit Zak Crawley because Joe Root is always on the lookout for scoring. He picks up a lot of singles and I think Crawley will enjoy batting with him. England need this partnership to last for a long time.
Here you go.
Those two early wickets have probably made your mood less than good, but Zak Crawley has been an absolute delight to watch.
Whacked!
Zak Crawley crunches away another pull shot through mid-wicket.
The 23-year-old has been really good today.
A change for Australia as Cameron Green - who has enjoyed some success against Joe Root in this series - replaces Mitchell Starc.

Dawid Malan has played nine of his 21 Tests against Australia to be fair. But the left-hander does have a bit of a weakness against Lyon.
He struggles to score freely, or rotate the strike with any sort of ease or regularity, and that leads to him being bogged down and pressure building.
Joe Root sees out his first ball to complete the over.

It was a pretty poor shot.
