What a moment this would be for Ollie Pope to pick up runs.

    Target 271

Ollie Pope gets off the mark with a push into the covers. He's such a busy cricketer, but today he needs to find the balance that his game is craving.

On that wicket, Ben Stokes has done amazing things for English cricket, but that wasn't his best moment. He'll be livid with himself in the changing room. It isn't a good shot for the situation.

A good catch from Lyon. Mitchell Starc banged it in short and Stokes took him on. There was no need from Stokes - he didn't need to play that shot. Him and Root needed to stick around in order to win this Test.

A roar of delight from Starc. That is a huge step towards victory for Australia.

    Stokes c Lyon b Starc 5 (Eng 92-4)

Oh, no! Caught on the pull.

Mitchell Starc bangs one in and Ben Stokes can't resist taking it on. It is a shot that he plays well, but is a bit top-edgy and Nathan Lyon runs in from deep square leg and takes a good, low diving catch about 15 yards in from the boundary rope.

    The moment England's hopes end?

There's been no spin from Australia. For all we know, Lyon could have a bowl and it turns a mile.

    A maiden from Pat Cummins.

England's WinViz is down at 29% now.

You lot are a bit more pessimistic - just over 25% of 8,000 voters thought England would win when I asked a couple of overs ago.

Here's how Cameron Green picked up the wicket of Zak Crawley for his third success of the day.

He's being given a rest now. Pat Cummins is back on.

Rory Burns did look good today. If you see his score you might think he's failed again. But he wasn't twitchy at the crease and looked confident.

Ben Stokes works Mitchell Starc for a couple through mid-wicket. He doesn't seem to be grimacing anymore when he's driving and pulling so his side strain must hopefully be healing well.

Away from Hobart, Glenn Maxwell has taken an absolute blinder of a catch in the Big Bash League. I suggest you go find it on social media. Incredible.

Just some more on Dawid Malan's new baby.

The baby and Malan's wife, Claire, are doing well. England may look to get Malan home earlier if they can - they will know more in the next 24 hours.

England have managed to survive a Cameron Green over without losing a wicket.

Two runs from the over. This partnership is crucial.

    Cameron Green will continue.

Here's how he picked up Dawid Malan for his second wicket.

Beaten! That's a beauty from Mitchell Starc. Ben Stokes is forward defending but a little bit of movement sees it shape just past the outside edge and just past off stump.

Stokes is then on the charge and leaving as he looks to assert some control back on the situation.

Australia make a change with Mitchell Starc replacing Scott Boland.

Who do people fancy from here then? At tea more of you fancied England.

Thumbs up for England. Thumbs down for Australia.

  20. Eng 85-3published at 23 overs

Ben Stokes is off the mark straight away with a steer out to deep point, before Root also gets up and running with a nudge into mid-wicket.

England still need 186 more runs. It is looking tough now.
