Australia can go off with the knowledge they have made their first inroad into the England batting line-up. They'll be galvanised by the applause they're receiving from the crowd.

    Burns b Green 26 (Eng 68-1)

The luck of the locks expires and England's hope is punctured.

Trying to leave, Rory Burns gets undone by some extra bounce from Cameron Green, deflecting the ball back down on to his stumps.

It was a fine opening stand by England, but that is a crucial opening for Australia.

The floodlights are beaming down on what could be the last day of the series. I think the chances of it ending today are receding. Too many runs to get in the last session, while you'd hope England won't lose all 10 wickets in that time. Another boundary to Crawley, this time clipped off the toes from the bowling of Boland.

It's a really good decision from Rod Tucker. There was a convincing appeal and there was a deviation of the ball.

There's a little murmur on Snicko but no clear spike which would tell us there's an outside edge.

Does that count? I mean, has Nessy made money for someone in particular?

Burns, face paint and long hair of warrior, drives new bowler Cameron Green for four.

Turned to fine leg by Crawley. Four more taken off Boland. The interval is about 15 minutes away. How England would love to get there unscathed.

This is the highest England opening stand against Australia since Alastair Cook and Michael Carberry added 65 at the MCG Test in 2015.

    Burns 22, Crawley 24

Crawley tries to pull Cummins, but the bounce isn't there and he takes a blow to the stomach. A single completes the over. The highest total chased in a day-night Test in 187. This is a very good start from England, but that target is still a long way away.

The Burns hair would be suitable for all sorts of things. A part in Braveheart, fronting a rock band, WWE wrestler. It's so long it touches the name on the back of his shirt. Marnus Labuschagne is talking some nonsense from somewhere on the field. Runscoring has slowed.
