Katherine Brunt is going to go from angry to angrier after being taken out of the attack so early in the innings.

Ah - just a change of ends for Anya Shrubsole. She continues, instead of Brunt.

England just need to bowl some dots here. They don't need to bowl to take wickets, the pressure of the chase will bring them.

The worm shows South Africa Women are seven runs ahead of England Women. South Africa Women are 31 for 1 after 8 overs. At the same stage England Women were 24 for 2.

    Target 236

Kate Cross replaces Anya Shrubsole, who has only bowled three overs and just taken a wicket. Interesting move.

A tidy start from Cross, drawing a play and a miss from Wolvaardt before she corrects herself and helps herself to four past a diving Katherine Brunt on the cover boundary.

Those runs mean that Laura Wolvaardt is now South Africa's leading run scorer in women's cricket World Cups.

    Not bad for a 22-year-old.

Good shot. We were just saying Wolvaardt can take her time but when you get a delivery like that, you've got to punish it.

We saw Katherine Brunt completely lose her head in the game against the West Indies, she's got to gather herself here and chill out a little bit. It's not the end of the world.

  7. SA 27-1published at 7 overs

    Target 236

Shot! Katherine Brunt bowls too short and Laura Wolvaardt is not going to miss out on that. Crunched to the square-leg boundary.

She follows it up with another four, this time gloriously driven through the covers. Brunt is not amused, let's just say that.

A 98th ODI wicket for Shrubsole, she took six in the World Cup final that were pretty big but given the context of this World Cup, that has got to be up there with her most significant.

  9. SA 18-1published at 6 overs

    Target 236

Tazmin Brits is the new batter and she keeps out two big inswingers from Shrubsole to conclude the over.

The worm shows South Africa Women are one run behind England Women. South Africa Women are 18 for 1 after 6 overs. At the same stage England Women were 19 for 2.

Brilliant delivery from Shrubsole, the in-swinger, the seam bolt upright and the ball just tailing towards that off stump, just kisses the surface and clips the top of off stump. Now it's time for England to climb in.

    Lee b Shrubsole 9 (SA 18-1)

    Big breakthrough!

There is some swing out there for Shrubsole and she utilises it, pitching the ball up and tempting big-hitter Lizelle Lee into a slog across the line that she completely misses.

Just the start England wanted - and it's the dangerous Lee who departs.

It has been a cautious start from South Africa, who will know, having lost a lot of wickets to these two in the warm-up match, that the big threat is going to be from Shrubsole and Brunt.

  13. SA 16-0published at 5 overs

    Target 236

All around the ground fielders and spectators are squinting and shielding their eyes from the sun that is beaming down on the Bay Oval right now.

    I'm so jealous.

  14. SA 14-0published at 4 overs

    Target 236

Just the single from Shrubsole's second.

A watchful start from the South Africa batters. No need to worry about the run rate at this early stage - wickets is the key.

  15. SA 13-0published at 3 overs

    Target 236

A solid start for Lizelle Lee.

Still can't believe we've seen yet another dropped catch from England. They can't let their heads drop but that is so frustrating.

England really are going to have to perform well to get the win. I do feel that they've got the bowling attack to win with Cross, Sciver and Ecclestone all being containers and then your strike bowlers up front in Shrubsole and Brunt.

  17. SA 11-0published at 2.1 overs

    Here she is!

Lizelle Lee whips Brunt over the mid-wicket fielder with real aggression for her first boundary.

  18. SA 7-0published at 2 overs

    Target 236

Anya Shrubsole has her head in her hands. Although she did drop two herself against the West Indies - it is evidently an area England have got to work on.

A nervy start for South Africa and a chance goes begging.

She has got to be catching those, that is a simple, simple chance. Straight to her and you can see the frustration from all the fielders. They have dropped so many catches in this tournament and that is one of the easiest.

  20. dropped catch

Wolvaardt dropped on 4published at 04:55 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Oh dear. Oh dear.

That is not what England wanted. Another dropped catch.

Similar to the one Laura Wolvaardt caught off Danni Wyatt in the first innings actually - she slashes it straight to Tammy Beaumont at point, who spills it. Should have been taken.
