England, while not out of the tournament if they lose this game, find themselves in a position where they need other results to go their way and the mathematics get a bit more complicated.

Not far away from Heather Knight at all. England are creating chances already.

    Target 236

Close! Laura Wolvaardt edges just wide of Heather Knight at slip! Not a chance as she didn't get a hand to it, but a sign of uncertainty from the South Africa batter.

    Promising signs for England's seamers.

Katherine Brunt is on the money first up as the powerful Lizelle Lee defends solidly up to mid-on.

So there we have it. 236 to win for South Africa.

It certainly won't be easy - England's bowlers will have a point to prove after last week's performance against the West Indies, and the pitch isn't as much of a road as we first thought.

The players are back out there, so let's go. I can't call this one - who are you backing?

But Marizanne Kapp wasn't going to let England get away too easily.

She struck twice in an over before wrapping up her first international five-wicket haul to peg them back once more.

A phenomenal display from one of the world's best.

Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones, who also made a half-century, led England's fightback with a partnership of over 100.

When they both fell in quick succession, England relied on their lower order to get them up to a par total.

She may have only made 16 but Nat Sciver was making batting look like the easiest task in the world - until she fell to one of the strangest dismissals you'll ever see.

England made one change to their team - promoting Danni Wyatt to open in place of Lauren Winfield-Hill.

And it didn't quite work out. Marizanne Kapp got South Africa off to a stunning start, removing Wyatt and captain Heather Knight in quick succession to leave England reeling at 19-2.

    Thanks, Sam!

Well, I think we might have a cracking game on our hands here too. Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt are a destructive opening partnership for South Africa, and could prove the key.

England will be desperate to get rid of one of them early. But before that, let's have a quick reminder of how England's innings unfolded.

Over in today's other World Cup fixture, it's turning into another thriller between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Pakistan are chasing 235 to win and are 186-5 with just over six overs remaining - but Sidra Amin is 95 not out.

You can follow the conclusion to that game here.

  12. England set South Africa 236 to winpublished at 04:23 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

A nightmare start for England as they slumped to 42-3 before Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones hit half-centuries in a fourth-wicket stand of 107.

At that stage, they looked on course for a big total but South Africa came back at them again and Marizanne Kapp's first international five-for kept them to 235-9.

Both sides will be backing themselves at the halfway stage. Ffion Wynne is back to look over England's innings and take you through the first 25 overs of the chase.

South Africa bowler Marizanne Kapp on Sky Sports: "It feels like I've been playing and bowling forever so I'm happy to finally get the five-wicket haul!

"I feel bad for me getting the five wickets because Klaas was so fantastic today. I'm so proud of her. She's had a proper run in the side for a few games in a row and she was brilliant.

"We would have taken 235 at the toss. We always wanted to bowl first. We played under lights here the other day and felt it got a bit quicker but I back our batters tonight."

That's probably a little below par, but it's an incredibly good start from England.

    It's been an absolute rollercoaster.

  16. Eng 235-9published at 50 overs

A scrambled two from the last was almost more as Kapp, making perhaps her first mistake of the innings, missed with a shy at the stumps from close range but Ecclestone had run past the stumps at the other end.

An up and down innings, to put it mildly, sees England finish with a competitive total. Game on!

  17. Eng 229-9published at 49.2 overs

Shrubsole thinks she's got a boundary with a thick outside edge off Kapp but it is superbly stopped at short third by Tryon. Just a single.

An excellent yorker. Dean was just trying to clear the front leg to hit through the off side, but it's taken out middle stump.

Last ball of the spell and Khaka nails the yorker. Charlie Dean had nowhere to go and the ball cannons into middle.

That's a great shot from Charlie Dean. She knows where the field is, and executes the shot perfectly to use the pace on the ball.
