Jack Rule: I would love to see England come out, go all guns blazing and knock these off in 20 overs but more importantly I want to see them win. Please don’t make it a nailbiter. I only have one nail left on my hands!

  4. India set England 135 to winpublished at 03:59 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2022

Now, all that good work in the field will count for little if England do not back it up with the bat.

Jhulan Goswami has the ball in hand for India. Danni Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont are opening for England.

    Here we go....

Did I tell you England were sharp in the field? Here is another example.

A fine throw from Nat Sciver runs out Richa Ghosh to leave India reeling on 123-8.

They would add just 11 to that total, with Kate Cross removing the lively Jhulan Goswami before Charlie Dean removed last batter Meghna Singh for her fourth wicket.

Then it was the turn of the spinners.

Charlie Dean took three wickets, including two in three balls, while Sophie Ecclestone removed the dangerous Mandhana, to help break the back of the India batting line-up.

Some horrendous running saw Deepti Sharma run out by a mile after some sharp work in the field by Kate Cross.

Let's have a quick recap of what we have seen so far.

It all started with Anya Shrubsole, who took her 100th and 101st ODI wickets at the top of the innings to reduce India to 25-2.

England were ON IT in the field.

They received a bit of stick for their fielding in the first three games, but they got everything right today. Not just catches and run outs, but stopping the boundaries and singles to keep the pressure on the India batters.

It has put them in a great position to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

England spinner Charlie Dean: "I'm just really excited to be on the pitch with a great set of girls and to be able to go out there and perform like that is pretty special.

"I spoke with our spin coach after the last game about getting my lengths a bit shorter, bowling at the stumps and keeping it simple and just execute. I pulled it off today.

"The girls have really come together, it's not been the World Cup we imagined but we're really in this and we're ready to fight. That's what is going to keep us going through the next couple of games."

Charlie Dean's bowling: 25% full, 75% good length and 0% short. 8.1 overs, 1 maidens, went for 23 runs, took 4 wickets with an economy of 2.82.

England came out today and looked a different side in the field, they had so much energy, they were buzzing around. Early wickets obviously help, they bowled fantastically in the powerplay, the spinners came on and Charlie Dean has been absolutely brilliant today.

England, who have been absolutely magnificent with the ball and in the field, have the chance to breathe life back into their World Cup campaign by chasing 135 to beat India - the side they beat in the final five years ago

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 36.2 overs

Meghna b Dean 3 (Ind 134 all out)

Charlie Dean has a four-fer! She clatters into Meghna Singh's stumps who goes for three and India are all out for 134.

Dean ends with a career-best 4-23 from 8.2 overs. Superb stuff.

  14. Ind 133-9published at 36 overs

Sophie Ecclestone deserves more than just the one wicket so far - can she wrap things up as she returns to the attack?

She sends a rare delivery down leg for a wide, before dropping a touch short with her final ball, allowing Meghna Singh to cut for two.

  15. Ind 130-9published at 35 overs

Rajeshwari Gayakwad comes to the crease as Heather Knight continues.

Just two singles off the over. England will be keen to wrap this up quickly.

You can't blame Goswami for getting out in that way. She was giving it the long handle and you felt there was a wicket around the corner.

    Goswami c Wyatt b Cross 20 (Ind 129-9)

    And another!

You can't really blame Jhulan Goswami here. She knew she had to take the initiative. After powering one four through the offside she goes for a cut but can only pick out Danni Wyatt at point.

    England are jubilant.

Good bit of work from Nat Sciver at mid-wicket. She is a brilliant fielder. England's luck has flipped and this has been a different side to the one we've seen earlier in the competition.

It's another example of brilliant England fielding. If anything encapsulates England's transformation from the rest of this tournament to today, it is that.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 03:19 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2022

Ghosh run out (Sciver) 33 (India 123-8)

Ghosh had made her ground but the bat was not grounded!

It was a fantastic throw from Nat Sciver. England's fielding has been excellent.
