The hallmark of a good New Zealand team is hard work. Collectively they have put it together and they'll deserve the memories garnered from this game. They have got over the World Cup disappointment and put it behind them. For me, I'm glad it's the Test format which for me is the best. It tests all aspects of your game.

Ross Taylor speaking to Sky Sports: It's still sinking in. This journey's been a long time coming and to be there at the end with Kane at the end in a pressure situation is something I'll never forget. It has to be the highlight of my career, being able to say we're world champions. It wasn't easy out there but we knew we had to stick in and it would get easier. It's a classy India side and they put us under real pressure.

Tim Southee speaking to Sky Sports: The first World Test Championship winners sounds pretty good. There's been a lot of hard work gone into it. The word that comes to mind for me is consistency, in selection and performances. We never give up, there's a lot of heart in this side so it's very satisfying to look back together on what we've achieved over the last few years.

Well done New Zealand. This match has been played in a great spirit. New Zealand have been aiming for this for a long time so it's the end of a long journey. They have played their hearts out. It's a victory for discipline over a team with more flair. The conditions certainly suited New Zealand.

All that disappointment of the World Cup two years ago is forgotten - at least for now. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor faced a real battle when they came together. It's been a remarkable game really given two days were lost to rain. The celebrations are starting in the dressing rooms. What a tremendous performance from New Zealand.

And they've done it! Ross Taylor hits the winning runs with a flick over mid-wicket.

The celebrations break out in the stands and in the dressing room, but it's all very gracious on the field and that's good to see. Virat Kohli is first up to shake hands with Kane Williamson and they even have a friendly hug.

Williamson finishes unbeaten on 52 and Taylor on 47. What a partnership that was.

Just the two from the over and it's just four to win. It'll be Shami again so there certainly won't be any freebies.

Ross Taylor drills one back at Ishant Sharma and he gets a nasty blow on the finger. Bit of a delay as he goes off the field and Bumrah's going to finish the over.

That four brings up Kane Williamson's half-century - just the second man in the game to do so after Devon Conway in the first innings.

Leading from the front, it's been a wonderful, measured innings from the New Zealand captain.

    6 to win.

That was very uncharacteristic from Williamson who slogs one high, high in the air and Jasprit Bumrah can't quite get there.

He then thumps the next ball for four and Kohli has his head in his hands.

A lot of India supporters have started to leave, but they've really made a fantastic atmosphere during this game.

For New Zealand fans, though, it's just gone 5.20am over there. Will these two drag the chase out a little longer to wait for a few more to wake up?

And as I finish that sentence Kane Williamson whips Ishant Sharma over midwicket for another four and then a three out to cover. Maybe not.

That's a nice shot. Williamson comes down the pitch to Jadeja and whips it between mid-on and mid-wicket for four.

Exemplary batting from the New Zealand captain. 24 to win.

Ishant Sharma is still not happy with the bowling crease as he takes a tumble in his follow through. A good bit of fielding though as the ball ricochets from his body somewhere and scuttles to mid-off.

A play and a miss from Ross Taylor, but the New Zealand fans don't care as they continue to chant away in the evening sun.

India's long tail in both innings has been important here. They lost four wickets in 38 balls in the first innings and the same in 22 balls in the second innings.
