Right, let's have a look at where that leaves things in the rest of the group.

Pakistan are still top, with three wins from three.

India are not out of the competition but they've made it very hard for themselves. They have Namibia, Scotland and Afghanistan still to play - they should win those comfortably but Afghanistan's net run-rate is far superior. Afghanistan, of course, have a very good chance of qualifying themselves as they currently sit second in the table.

New Zealand also have the same three teams to play but have the advantage of a win on the board already.

Basically, India will be desperate for one of those three to cause an upset and beat New Zealand if they're to have any chance.

New Zealand cruised to victory with 33 balls to spare, largely thanks to Daryl Mitchell's crushing 49 at the top of the order. He played with the bravery and aggression that none of India's batters could manage.

India captain Virat Kohli: "I thought we were not brave enough with bat or ball. New Zealand had better intensity and body language and put us under pressure from the first ball onwards. That happens in T20 cricket and is most often a result of hesitation with the bat.

"When you play for the Indian cricket team you have a lot of expectation, not only from the fans but the players themselves. We have embraced that over the years. Whoever plays for India has to learn how to cope with it and we haven't in these two games."

I think 'clinical' is the best word to use for that New Zealand performance. Kane Williamson getting things right, as ever.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "It was a fantastic all-round performance against a formidable Indian outfit. Today a number of things went our way and we were very clinical in all facets."

  9. Postpublished at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2021

New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi: "I'm usually quite big on pre-match prep but with this bubble life we haven't been able to see the ground before we get there. It was our first time here at Dubai and something we had to adapt to. The wicket was one we had to adapt to very quickly and the boundary sizes were different.

"A big part of our game is using those spin bowlers through the middle and a lot is set up by the powerplay bowlers so Tim Southee getting that wicket late in the powerplay was massive for us and allowed us to do our job through the middle.

"We had a tough loss against Pakistan, it was hard not to think this was a really big game and to play the way we did tonight is one to celebrate."

That was so ridiculously one-sided in the end.

Lots of talk about the advantages of chasing in the UAE and the factor that dew plays, but India only managed 110 runs. That won't win you many T20 matches anywhere in the world.

A fine bowling performance from New Zealand with three wickets for Trent Boult, two for Ish Sodhi and one apiece for Adam Milne and Tim Southee.

A terrific win for New Zealand but this is more than a disappointment for India. It's a dreadful result. They have played two, lost two and lost them both heavily.

Even the stadium announcer has gone quiet, he knows he won't be able to get anything out of this crowd. That shows how one-sided this game has been.

  20. NZ 102-2published at 13.4 overs

Need 9 runs from 38 balls

Kane Williamson takes the equation to less than 10 to win with a beautifully timed upper-cut over the keeper for four runs.
