  2. Eng 29-0published at 4 overs

England sneak an extra run as a direct hit ricochets off the stumps and the batters take two.

Sixteen from the over. Just what England needed.

  3. Eng 26-0published at 3.4 overs

Boult goes short and the ball clears Buttler and keeper Devon Conway's head for five wides!

  4. How's stat?!published at 14:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2021

    Andy Zaltzman
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

Jos Buttler, since the series against Australia late last year, averages 71 from 19 T20 internationals innings, with a strike-rate of 144.

  5. Eng 21-0published at 3.2 overs

Now then, this is more like it! Southee offers width and Buttler creams him through cover for back-to-back boundaries.

    That will relieve some pressure.

  7. Eng 17-0published at 3.1 overs

Solid, sweet and straight - Buttler drills Boult down the ground for four.

My main match-up today is avoiding the boss on Teams.

Anon in Avonville in case he's reading this

  9. Eng 13-0published at 3 overs

My prediction was wrong. Just the one from a terrific Southee over.

I'd say the timing is not quite there for England but in order to time it, you need to hit it.

The runs might not be flowing but both openers are still there.

The Beery Moose: Everyone in my office has just gone out to a meeting. Perfect timing.

  11. Eng 13-0published at 2.3 overs

England are having to be very watchful here. Just one single from Southee in this over so far. I predict a big shot incoming.

    Risky business for Bairstow...

  14. Eng 12-0published at 2 overs

Lucky! Bairstow nearly chops on but the ball whizzes past the stumps and down to the fine-leg boundary for four fortunate runs.

A decent first over from Boult, though, varying his line, length and pace.

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

There doesn't seem to be much pace or bounce in this wicket. New Zealand's pacers will want to get it as full as possible.

  16. Eng 7-0published at 1.3 overs

Testing time for the England openers!

Trent Boult begins the second over with three dot balls, including one which beats the outside edge of Bairstow's bat.

I'm a bag of nerves and dreading hearing Aggers well known phrase "Oh he's bowled him - clean bowled!" for at least 1/2 hour.

New Zealand had just moved the fine leg fielder a lot finer. If he had been in position he could potentially have stopped that.

  19. Eng 6-0published at 1 over

Play and a miss! Southee bowls full, swinging away from Buttler as the batter wafts at thin air.

But Southee's good work in the over is dented slightly as a full delivery is clipped through the leg-side by Buttler for England's first boundary.

  20. Eng 2-0published at 0.3 overs

The injured Jason Roy is sitting on the sidelines and watching as his replacement opener Bairstow pushes down the ground for a well-taken single.
