Edged from Kane Williamson! Not taken...

It's a tough one. Zak Crawley hasn't got a hand on it. The ball almost got to him on the half-volley and even after four replays I'm not 100% sure it carried.

Latham cuts for four at the end of the over.

This is within the compass of one or two really good partnerships that might make a real difference at this stage. That is what all the New Zealanders have to be after.

  3. NZ 21-1published at 10 overs

Potts corrects his radar nicely, one delivery hooping back to test Ben Foakes' footwork. Thankfully his calf seems completely fine today. He left the field yesterday of course.

That was a bit short and wide from Matty Potts and Tom Latham, who is an experienced player, punched it away.

It was a bad ball, it got what it deserved.

  5. NZ 21-1published at 9.1 overs

    Excellent stat from Elliot.

Matthew Potts is on for his first bowl of the day and his first delivery is slashed for four by Tom Latham. After one delivery Potts has conceded almost a third of the runs he did yesterday.

    Questionable behaviour from Stephan.

It says a lot about this Test match that I'm about to refer to this as a "quiet period".

Yesterday I was in the Edrich Stand seeing some friends when a man asked me if I could take a picture of him with the iconic playing area in the background.

Naturally, I was happy to oblige, but not before I flicked his phone to selfie mode for a snap of yours truly. I wonder what he thought when he flicked through his gallery last night.

If you're travelling far there's a good chance it'll be all over and we'll all be in the pub.

Stuart Broad isn't looking quite as threatening here. I wonder when Matthew Potts will be given a go at Williamson, having dismissed him yesterday.

Kane Williamson's time watching Matt Parkinson from slip has paid off. He copies England's number 11 by driving straight down the ground to the boundary.

    Learning from the best.

If we go back to the Sri Lanka series in late 2018 - Anderson has bowled in 22 second innings and taken 15 wickets at an average of 44 and a strike-rate of 110.

Before that his second-innings were excellent but they have dipped a little bit in the last few years.

I really wouldn't mind if this match was to settle down for a bit. I have jobs I'm trying to avoid doing this weekend.

Kane Williamson gets his first runs - a couple followed by a three - which takes New Zealand into the lead.

What we have noticed so far and one of the issues New Zealand have is playing at the wide ball, which proved so problematic in their first innings.

They have to keep busy. They got a bit caught with the accuracy of Anderson and Broad in those first 40 or 50 minutes yesterday morning.

England have lost all 10 wickets for less than 85 runs seven times in less than three years!

    Terrifying.

None of England's numbers 5-11 made double figures, only the second time that has happened in 20 years - the last being the first innings of that unforgettable Headingley Ashes Test in 2019 when they were bowled out for 67 in their first innings.

England also lost all 10 wickets for 82. It is the seventh time since the start of 2019 that they have lost all 10 for 85 or less, which had happened eight times in the previous 30 years.

Williamson, undoubtedly one of the best of modern times, made just two in the first innings. He's looking as patient against Broad was he began against Anderson.

Stand by for some stats on England's batting that'll make you shudder...
