The new ball will be taken straight away by England. Whoever gets to use needs to make good use of it.

Mitchell 72, Blundell 63
I'm going to be honest, there's some of sort trapeze/circus act doing some rehearsals on the space outside the office window and we've spent that over watching them. We thought a group of them fell, but they, thankfully, hadn't.
Just a single to Daryl Mitchell.
Daryl Mitchell has batted brilliantly again...
Another maiden.
Matthew Potts has bowled well in this spell. He's been a bit luckless today - he's bowled better than 0-68 suggests overall.
Six balls till the new ball.

James Buxton: England will lose this game by an innings within three days. Feels a fairly safe prediction.
Better from Jack Leach. A fuller length and he finds a little bit of spin to get one to slide past the outside edge of Daryl Mitchell.
Two overs till the new ball. England will want a couple of wickets with that.
We'll be playing until 18:30 BST.

Where did that one come from? That's a beauty. It's deliveries like this which as a captain you are thinking, when the opposition have 300 on the board, "oops" having decided to bowl first. You start to worry what the pitch will be doing on days four on five when you have to bat on it again.
Good over from Matthew Potts.
He gets one to rise and leave Daryl Mitchell and that draws some excitement from the England fielders.
Michael Vaughan reckons Ben Stokes is thinking "oops" right now.

England as a collective have not fielded well. Not just the dropped catches, but diving over few and others going through their hands. England were magnificent at Lord's but today it was like putting an old sweater. The team of the last two years is back.
England have been less than perfect in the field today...
A change for England. Matthew Potts is coming back on.
Four overs till the new ball.
Mitchell 70, Blundell 63
Short from Jack Leach again and Tom Blundell rocks back and cuts for two through the covers.
Leach has bowled far too short generally today. Pitch it up, Jack.

From here if New Zealand bat badly they'll make 370 but if they bat well it could be 450. If it's the latter they know they will be in the kind of position from where they can control the game from.
Four more.
Daryl Mitchell gets down and nails another reverse sweep and picks up another boundary.
He's picked up 18 of his 69 behind square on the off-side now. He's played that shot really well.

That was an odd one. England have lost a review.
A dreadful review.
Tom Blundell has got a massive inside edge on it, and the ball didn't carry to Ben Foakes.
Brendon McCullum doesn't look impressed at all in the England changing room.
England have one review left.

A strange review. Has this come off the bat, and hit the boot? Or are they looking at lbw?
Have England got Tom Blundell?
Are they appealing for lbw? Are they appealing for bat/pad?
Who knows.

That was a very strange piece of cricket. It was really dug in by Joe Root.
Another half-century for New Zealand wicketkeeper Tom Blundell. Can he go and convert this week after being out for 97 at Lord's last week?
Earlier in the over Joe Root threw down a bouncer at Daryl Mitchell, which the all-rounder swatted back down the ground.
A quite ridiculous over.
