Nowhere near the bat.
Nowhere near the glove.
It flicked off Daryl Mitchell's armband - that is justtttt about not touching the bottom of the glove - and up to Ollie Pope at leg slip.

Daryl Mitchell seems to be indicating this came off his arm.
Has Daryl Mitchell been caught at leg slip looking to reverse sweep?
Joe Root really likes it.
Mitchell looks relaxed.

The pitch has played a bit different than everyone expected. It's easy with hindsight to say England should have batted first. I think you have to revaluate what a good day is here. England haven't bowled as well as they could have done. It's a better pitch to bat on and New Zealand have played well. But if England sneak two or three wickets in the next hour they will get themselves back in the game.
Joe Root has dropped another!
It would have been an absolute blinder from the former England skipper to be fair.
Tom Blundell rocks onto the back foot and a hard cut flies towards Root at slip. He gets there - maybe almost too early - and the ball ricochets off the inner of his thumb and away for a couple.

England are trying to rush through these overs to get through to the new ball so that's why Joe Root is into the attack.
Thanks Ffion.
It is starting to feel like I'm in an abyss of watching Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell batting in this series.
It feels like England are trying to race through some overs to get to the new ball. It's nine overs away.
Three singles from Joe Root's first over, which is pretty unthreatening.
And that's me done. To see you through until the close of play, here's Callum Matthews. Hopefully he can bring England a few more wickets.
Nick and Adam, your wish is granted.
Here's Joe Root.

Nick: I would love to see Root bowl a bit more in the Test team. He's a decent tweaker, and maybe turning the ball into the right-handers would be a better option.
Adam: Root's a lucky bowler...might be worth a few overs, Captain...?
A Jack Leach maiden.
10 overs until the new ball.
That is all.

This next hour and 10 minutes will have a big influence on this Test match. If these two get through to the close it will be New Zealand's day. However, England will be thinking they are two wickets away from Kyle Jamieson so if they get a couple they may be able to get three or four.
Mitchell recovers, and Broad continues with the short stuff.
The batter tries to pull another short ball but misses, the ball passing very close to the bat that brings a gasp from Ben Foakes behind the stumps.
Anyone for a wicket?

Daryl Mitchell wasn't even meant to be playing at Lord's and now he has century and a half-century under his belt in this series.
Broad gets one on target and clatters Mitchell on the helmet. Nasty one.
The physio comes out for an assessment but he seems absolutely fine.
Ben Stokes takes the opportunity to bring his players in for a huddle and some words of wisdom.
Broad continues with the short ball ... and Daryl Mitchell pulls it into the stands for six to bring up the hundred partnership between him and Blundell.
Played.
NZ 263-4
Daryl Mitchell backs up his century at Lord's with an excellent half-century here, really punishing Joe Root for dropping him on one.
Since then he's made batting look ridiculously easy - ominous for England.

I like this tactic from Stuart Broad to Daryl Mitchell as he is a compulsive hooker. The only problem is that it's a short boundary down there so if he gets anything on it I think it will be six. It's always strange as a batter when you have cruised to the 40s and suddenly everything is up near your chin. It certainly gets your beans going.
The short stuff doesn't look particularly threatening. Three singles from the over, but it's worth a try.
