I've seen the future. It's pouring your own beer.
But Mitchell, centurion at Lord's, continued to punish England for dropping him ...
But thankfully, there were a couple of wickets to add to the highlights reel.
Stokes and Anderson had Nicholls and Conway caught behind respectively, both taking their second wicket of the day.
And in keeping with the trend of England's fielding in the past couple of years, there were dropped catches.
Zak Crawley dived across Joe Root as Henry Nicholls was put down on 17 before Root himself missed a simple chance to get rid of Daryl Mitchell when he was on one.
In keeping with the trend of the day so far, the session started with boundaries.
And then some more boundaries.
And a few more.
Thanks, Tim.
Well, it's been a weird day, hasn't it? Let's have a quick recap of what happened in the afternoon.
Things could really open up in the evening session you feel.
I'm for a cuppa. And to guide you through the tea break - and beyond - is my esteemed colleague Ffion Wynne who will capture all the key moments.

I feel that with New Zealand's tail it's quite evenly poised at the moment.
Ben Stokes finishes with a couple of dot balls, blocked by Daryl Mitchell.
And that's tea.
New Zealand 195-4. Mitchell is unbeaten on 20 and wicketkeeper Tom Blundell is 7 not out. Hard to say who is the happier here. If England had held those two catches they might feel differently.

Remember, it was England who put New Zealand into bat today. The pressure is on them to do the running and take these wickets.
England skipper Ben Stokes will bowl the final over before tea with four slips and gully in place. Daryl Mitchell nudges his second delivery round the corner for a single.
Tom Blundell leaves his third ball and then dabs it down for a single through mid-wicket.
Jack Leach grips the ball tightly in his left hand, and grits his teeth.
He tosses his second ball up - under duress perhaps? - and Daryl Mitchell skips down the the pitch and wallops it for four on the leg side.
Leach's role, generally, in the first innings is to contain rather than attack but England are hungry for another wicket before the interval.
Six runs off the over.

There has been no innings-defining partnership in this match yet.
Ben Stokes strikes Daryl Mitchell on the pad with the third delivery of his over. It was sliding down leg and...never mind, it was no-ball anyway.
Stokes has concentration etched on his face for the remainder of the over as he whistles two balls past Mitchell's off stump with some good carry. England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes puffs his cheeks after taking the ball.
It looks like we'll have a bit of Jack Leach before tea.

Rob Meech: It’s bizarre to think there will come a time when Jimmy Anderson isn’t bowling for England. He’s only a few years older than me, but I struggle to remember an England attack that wasn’t centred around him. His longevity is remarkable. A living legend.

Where did that come from?! It was the sort of shot you'd see in the opening over of a T20 game, with the field up.
Just at it looks like New Zealand had shut up shop before tea, Daryl Mitchell plays a flamboyant aerial drive.
The Kiwi right-hander plonks his foot down the pitch and biffs it in the air over the fielders in the covers for four. Where did that come from? Not exactly textbook from the Kiwi but he finds the ropes.
Wanton abandon from Mitchell. He is on his second life after a dropped catch Joe Root really should held from a little earlier. There's a clip of that here.

This morning was a free for all with shots being played. But this afternoon has been quite a tense battle.
Ben Stokes chugs in to follow up James Anderson's maiden with another tight over.
The England skipper finds some movement through the air, and off the pitch as he offers Daryl Mitchell an opportunity to drive with his fourth ball and he pushes his hands at it but Anderson dives in the covers to ensure it is nothing more than a single.
New Zealand's batters have turned their minds to tea and sticky buns you sense.
