How about that from Ollie Pope?!

    Wonderful improvisation.

New Zealand have four fielders on the leg-side boundary but Ollie Pope makes some space and whacks one through the off side for four more. England are piling them on.

The highlights are on at 19:00 (BST) tonight, which I am sure you'll be watching, but Joe Root's innings so far feels like a highlights reel.

The most impressive thing about Joe is not the amount of runs but how quickly he scores. Once he's in, there's no stopping the guy.

Looks like the chants of "Rooooooot" are on repeat today.

He misses one down the leg side but Blundell misses it too.

And the Yorkshireman adds two more boundaries to bring up the 150 partnership between these two. 300 up for England.

  7. County Championship latestpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 12 June 2022

The County Championship has returned today as part of the ECB's plans for more red-ball cricket to be played in June and July.

There are eight games and Harry Brook, who England released from their squad to play, is currently batting for Yorkshire at Hampshire. He's into the 30s.

Jamie Overton - who a fair few of you have text us about this week, wanting him to be called up - has taken three wickets for Surrey as Somerset struggle with the bat. He is currently bowling at brother Craig.

New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra, who has signed for Durham for this round, has just reached a century too.

What an athlete Trent Boult is. A bowler who pretty much plays 12 months a year. He rarely gets injured. Incredible athlete.

A hint of turn for Bracewell.

Pope cuts one and Trent Boult shows some wonderful athleticism to get round and cut off the boundary. The New Zealander's fielding gets a roar of appreciation from the Nottingham faithful and he's back in action the very next ball, to resounding cheers from his fans.

Anyway, I can't remember the last time England had it this easy. Poor Zak Crawley must be thinking what on earth he did to deserve that jaffa from Trent Boult yesterday.

Surely Daryl Mitchell should be bowling. We've got nine overs until the new ball. Rest your bowlers.

Bracewell fires through another neat over. It's all a little too easy for Ollie Pope and Joe Root.

Just like England on the first evening, New Zealand are crying out for the new cherry here...

The fielder got in a tangle. Root was committed to the run but Pope sent him back. It was actually Pope's call, to be fair.

    Turn back, Joe!

Root wants a quick single but Pope immediately sends his former captain back who dives in safely.

A calamitous run-out is the last thing England need!

Tidy over to start off with for Bracewell. Just the couple of singles off it.

Not much turn in this surface at all.

England will want to be around 400-5 or 400-6 today - that will be a good day for them.

A great day would be 440 for three or four.

The first over after drinks in the afternoon session costs New Zealand nine runs.

England going at a one-day rate after lunch and he is some player this Joe Root. Opens the face of his bat and guides the ball to the boundary effortlessly.

    Easy.
