    Thanks Kal.

That was an enjoyable morning if you're an England fan. There were some lovely boundaries and encouraging signs from both Alex Lees and Ollie Pope.

Stay with us during lunch, we'll bring you some of the best clips and we've also got #AskMo with Moeen Ali. We'll bring you all the best moments from that.

England scored 105 runs in that session with the loss of one wicket. Alex Lees will be disappointed with the way he departed; a loose shot. But Ollie Pope has played a fluent innings. And Joe Root is doing what Joe Root does.

I've recovered from the vinegar sweats and handing over to Callum Matthews to take you through lunch and the next session.

    Pope 84, Root 35

Joe Root strikes his seventh boundary of the innings. A crisp drive through point.

And that, folks, is lunch. England's session.

Root dropped on 27published at 53.3 overs

Edged and dropped! Joe Root with a lifeline. It's a tough chance but you've seen those taken.

Root lets his hands go and Tim Southee, at second slip, tips it over the bar. It went quickly.

Trent Boult sprints back to his mark after each delivery. New Zealand want to try and get another over in before the interval. I'm not sure they will.

  7. Eng 186-2published at 53 overs

Every so often, the ball will do something. Coupled with the skills of Boult and Southee, England will need to be watchful.

But it's easy pickings for the batters whenever the seamers stray on middle and leg, as Root clips down to deep mid-wicket for three.

  8. County Championship updatepublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 12 June 2022

Alex Lees isn't the only English opener getting out playing loose drives this morning.

A certain Dom Sibley has nicked one through to the keeper against Lancashire at Edgbaston and Yorkshire's Adam Lyth has driven one straight to gully against Hampshire.

Pope pushes down to mid-off and sets off for a single. He stops in his tracks and waits for the ball to pass the fielder before completing the single.

Not long until lunch. England, much like New Zealand, have found it easy to score quickly on this pitch.

You can see England being 220-5 quite easily if those edges go to hand.

Almost! Root reaches at one swinging away from him and a thick edge sends the ball ballooning through the gap at second slip.

A smiling Root walks down the wicket and shares a few friendly words with Tim Southee.

I don't see any reason why the run-rate won't continue to be good, and because of that opportunities will come. Both teams want to play their shots. It means New Zealand are still in the game - the ball is doing a bit etc.

Vintage Joe Root! He rocks back, sets himself nicely and creams it through extra cover for four. Textbook stuff.

I still feel that Ollie Pope will end up with a Test average over 40 - I still feel he's got the game.

He's only played 25 games, that isn't a lot. He's still a young player. I watch him and still think he's trying to work out what sort of player he is and he's not fully convinced about what he's trying to be.

  16. Eng 171-2published at 49 overs

    Root 16, Pope 79

Ollie Pope will not get many better opportunities to reach his second Test century.

Having said that, there is some life in this ball as Tim Southee has one shaping away from Root and beating the edge.

New Zealand had a ball which was swinging and they changed it - why? This latest one is gun barrel straight.

Rooooot. England's Mr Reliable is on his toes and guides it through the vacant gully region for four.

The hosts now trail by 384 runs. Too early to say this game has draw written all over it?

There was a chant yesterday of 'we're in the sun, you're in the shade' between two different stands here at Trent Bridge. I liked that - it was simple but funny.
