New Zealand are still not out of this. England have got Potts at 8 and they are still almost 400 runs behind.

New Zealand have got until lunch with Joe. If he's still there at 2pm, I think we'll see an exhibition once again. It's the perfect pitch for him.

Quality from Root. It's not overly short from Matt Henry but Root manages to rock back and elegantly pull it to the boundary.

The office is now discussing favourite crisps. I've gone for Hula Hoops. How satisfying to be able to place a crisp on each finger.

The County Championship is back under way today, with eight games across the country.

We've had seven wickets already in the first hour of play in Division One. Somerset have lost their two openers at Taunton against leaders Surrey, while Kent have removed the Gloucestershire top three at Canterbury.

You can follow all the action on our County Championship live text.

These posh crisps are giving me the sweats. Maybe it's the chardonnay vinegar.

A single each for Pope and Root, before Pope clips down to the fine-leg boundary for a couple more.

I don't remember Ollie Pope and Joe Root having too many good partnerships together but I know that Ollie's hero is Joe.

The best way to learn from him is to bat alongside him for a few hours.

  10. Eng 157-2published at 44 overs

    Root 6, Pope 75

Keep it together, Joe Root. The former England captain plays and misses a cut shot to Matt Henry.

Root follows that with a sweet drive through the off side for four.

He then has a nibble at one shaping away from him. Tom Blundell fails to grab it cleanly behind the stumps and may have slightly injured his hand.

    Eventful over.

You feel like when one wicket falls another could fall quite quickly after, it just gives the bowling side a lift.

  12. Eng 151-2published at 43 overs

Ollie Pope edges for a couple, before leaving one which narrowly misses the off stump.

Heads on hands. Oohs and aahs. New Zealand sense there could be another wicket here.

Shane O'Neill: Lees looking nailed on for a big score before the drinks break curse strikes again. Let's hope Pope can keep his concentration levels up.

Mark Burt: Diabolical shot by Lees. Given a life and a huge opportunity missed. Another frustrating dismissal.

If Joe Root is still there at lunch in 50 minutes time then I think we're in for something special this afternoon.

  15. Eng 149-2published at 42 overs

In comes Joe Root. He is greeted by a terrific delivery from Matt Henry. In the channel as England's star batter plays inside the line.

It was a really poor shot because it wasn't there to drive. The ball was in the channel on length - if he gets his right foot over he might be able to control it but it doesn't go and he's reaching for it.

That is a huge opportunity missed for Alex Lees. Test cricket is hard.

It was a comfortable catch for Daryl Mitchell. Lees was reaching for it.

How often do we see this? A player loses concentration after the drinks break and pays the price.

Alex Lees has played some fine shots today but he chases at one which he really should be left alone. Daryl Mitchell takes a simple catch.

My girlfriend did my packed lunch this morning. I'm a 35-year-old man. Anyway - I've just opened a pack of 'Sea Salt & Chardonnay Vinegar Hand Cooked Crisps'. What's wrong with calling it salt and vinegar? The world has gone mad.
