Hmmm, Ollie Pope looks to cut away but is again beaten. Did that keep a little low? Possibly, but it was so wide it won't really concern England at this stage.
England's new number three gets off strike with a flick down to fine leg, before Alex Lees is beaten looking to drive.
Good over from Tim Southee.
"Nice interview you did with Test Match Special, Moeen..."

Alex Lees has looked very fluent this morning...

BBC Test Match Special statistician
The century stand came up in 31.3 overs. It is only England's second 100 stand for the second wicket since July 2020. They've played 25 Tests in that time.
Of the 11 Test nations that have played Test cricket only West Indies have a lower average for the second wicket. England's average is 25.7.

He just leant on that and opened the face. It is a glorious shot.
If you look at the highlights last night it is just crisp, precision and class.

Former England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
Better! That is the Ollie Pope that we've been hearing so much about.
Shot! Pope middles it through the gap in the off side for four. Placed to perfection.
Pope pushes to mid-off for a two and brings up the 100 partnership. A good reception from the Trent Bridge crowd.

It is quality bowling - he is really trying to get him into that position.

That has been a problem area for Ollie Pope, he isn't sure about whether to play or not. He had a little poke and feel at it and that has been the problem for England's batters.
For the second time this morning, Ollie Pope edges just short of slip. This one was a lot closer, though. It's a scrambled seam from Boult which lures Pope in.

I don't think there is any doubt that Ollie Pope has the talent - it is just whether on this international stage how he can cope.
He got himself into a couple of good positions against India last summer and got out and his issues over the winter were with spin. Anytime he came in Nathan Lyon seemed to get him out.

Stokes should have just gone along with it. I was once mistaken for Brad Pitt and rolled with it.
A couple of outswingers then one which comes in - Southee sets up Ollie Pope who manages to dig out the fuller delivery just in time.
This partnership is now worth 97.

I was by the gate when the England players arrived this morning. There were a few fans around asking for selfies, and autographs. One young lad shouted 'Bairstow! Bairstow! Can I have a picture?'. Only problem was that he was shouting at Ben Stokes.
I'd love to see Tuffers putting on P.E classes for our nation's youth. I'd also love to see footage of Aggers doing a Joe Wicks workout.

Maybe you're the new Joe Wicks.
I had to do that during lockdown. He was a maniac but he was fit!

I'm on a bit of a health kick at the moment having prawns and spinach in my curry last night, and don't forget my walks!
Lees 42, Pope 55
Lees played a glorious drive a few overs ago. But this one is better.
The opener absolutely middles it through square leg. The Trent Bridge crowd applauding the shot the moment it left the bat.
This is a positive start from England. The 100 is up.

If Daryl Mitchell can hit 190 on this pitch then so can Ollie Pope. Come on Ollie, let's see some belief and some steel.
