  1. 'Anything over 280 would put England under pressure'published at 19:00 British Summer Time 13 June 2022

More from Devon Conway: "There was some communication about Michael Bracewell - a.k.a The Beast - trying to put the bowlers under pressure. He does do that because he hits the ball really hard. It was good for him to try and take the momentum and put it in our favour. It was a nice counter punch from him - it would have been nice to see him do it for a bit longer. Credit to him on his debut.

"If we can get to somewhere around 280 - maybe 300 is a bit greedy - that would be good for us. If we can then get the ball in the right areas it can put England under pressure on the final day."

Kyle Jamieson did have his pads on in the New Zealand changing room.

  3. 'Credit to England'published at 18:58 British Summer Time 13 June 2022

New Zealand's Devon Conway on Test Match Special: "It was a very exciting day of cricket. It has ebbed and flowed really well. Credit to England for firing some punches late in the day and it has set it up really nicely for the final day.

"We wanted to keep a nice positive mindset and always look to score and put the bowlers under pressure. I must say credit to the England bowlers, the seamers bowled really well today with the new ball and put us under pressure. We've still got quite a bit of batting to come."

There aren't many teams who chase down 270 or 280 to win a Test match on the final day of the game.

But if you were ever going to do it then I would think with a pitch like this, an outfield like this, against an attack like this with an injury to Kyle Jamieson I would fancy my chances.

  5. 'Anything under 300 is gettable'published at 18:56 British Summer Time 13 June 2022

More from Ben Foakes: "My hand is OK - I've got a few battered fingers from his game. Pottsy hasn't been too kind to me this week! I'll be happy to see the back of Trent Bridge."

On batting with Joe Root: "It is just his composure. Obviously his quality is outrageous but it is about not trying to match some of the things he does because I definitely couldn't, it is just about trying to stick in there and I can play my natural game. I've just really enjoyed batting with him so far."

On making contributions to solidify his place: "If you're getting picked obviously you've got to do well and that's what I'm trying to do every time I go out there."

On what can England chase: "It is tricky actually because the outfield is so quick. You don't know what is going to happen with the wicket - it is playing a little bit up and down. You would think anything under 300 is gettable."

  6. 'I think we are in for a classic'published at 18:55 British Summer Time 13 June 2022

Zak Crawley got a good ball in the first innings but it is the sort of chase he should be excited about because he needs a score.

Jonny Bairstow is another who needs a score and you've got players in Alex Lees, Joe Root, Ollie Pope and Ben Stokes who are in form. Ben Foakes was excellent today too.

Foakes' innings at Lord's seems to have triggered something in him that he really belongs at this level.

It is going to be a great last day. This has been a bit more like an old school Test match. It has just quickened up a bit today.

I think we are in for a classic.

  7. 'Everyone is in with a chance'published at 18:53 British Summer Time 13 June 2022

England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes talking to TMS: "It is pretty finely balanced. When you are set such a big total you're not really thinking about what is going on in the game, you are just trying to make sure you get up near them and then quite a lot has happened in the afternoon and evening sessions so it has left everyone in with a chance. We'll be looking to take early wickets and see where we can go."

I thought Daryl Mitchell played with real clarity and control. He looks an outstanding player.

New Zealand don't look like a team that will play out a boring draw. They look like a team that like to be on the front foot.

Trent Boult will be key. He could have a spell with the new ball that knocks England over.

The pitch is still good so you feel you could chase a few on the final day but you do have that fourth-innings pressure.

New Zealand were going along comfortably at 104-1, but then gifted their wickets away at regular intervals.

  12. 'England will go for it'published at 18:46 British Summer Time 13 June 2022

    Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special

New Zealand need someone to hang around with Daryl Mitchell and if he gets another 20 or so and someone else does the same then England will be chasing around 300 in 75 overs.

Whatever happens I don't think we'll be in for a boring day where England suddenly shut up shop. They will go for it. I think with this new team and new vibe we are all about winning.

Whether it comes off is a different story but they will arrive tomorrow purely excited about trying to win the game.

We're in for an outstanding day tomorrow - I'm delighted that it's going to be free and I hope the ground is almost full.

I was impressed with New Zealand as well because I thought they were just sitting in until Michael Bracewell came out and then all of a sudden I thought "hang on, they are on the gallop here".

The pitch is still playing well. I thought for the first 20 overs of the New Zealand innings it did the most it has done.

England seem to have this buzz of energy off the back of Lord's and a new coach and captain and I think they'll be really excited about tomorrow. They won't be thinking about losing. They'll be thinking about getting the last three wickets and then the challenge of chasing down this target.

Where do New Zealand go without that bowler if one or two get hit tomorrow?

I'm not sure they can hit the pitch as hard as England have either.

England are deservedly ahead at the moment.

You feel that 238 would be worth more on other pitches but it might be worth less on this one and with this outfield.
