Nope. But Stokes is off the mark with a single.
With the England captain and Jonny Bairstow, we have two of the finest hitters in world cricket. There is still hope.

Three defensive shots. Are we due a big one?

This field is slightly disappointing from Tom Latham - they've got so many runs still.
And again.
Forward defensive from Stokes.

Cue the fireworks. Next four overs will show if the deeds match the words!

I will be slightly disappointed if Ben Stokes decides to shut up shop now.
Target 299
Ben Stokes on strike to Michael Bracewell. Fireworks from the outset?

I am intrigued to see about how Ben Stokes goes about his first half an hour.
I hope he doesn't go for it too soon and he gives himself some time to get used to conditions.
In comes Ben Stokes, greeted by huge cheers. His team need something special. And he's pretty special at delivering special things.

It doesn't do a great deal - it is just a ball on or around fifth stump and a decent length.
How much was that needed for Tim Southee? Will it give him a boost?
Alex Lees played beautifully but you can't afford any soft dismissals. I'm not saying it was completely soft but it came from nowhere.
Lees c Blundell b Southee 44 (Eng 93-4)
Oh, Alex Lees!
He had just gone up a gear with that six in the previous over, but that's the end of his Test.
It's a tight line from Tim Southee and Lees has a little poke at it. The slightest of edges as Tom Blundell gathers behind the stumps. The opener didn't really need to play it.
Having been hit for three fours by Lees in the opening over, Tim Southee has the last laugh.

I keep hearing people saying that Alex Lees is trying to bat like Matthew Hayden but that and some of the other strokes he's played are more like Marcus Trescothick.

That's the way to take on Michael Bracewell! He bided his time and picked his delivery.
Target 299
Well, they've targeted Bracewell now!
Alex Lees dances down the track, meets the pitch of the ball, and unleashes a huge swing. Six! Delightful.

This is like a football match that ends in a 3-3 draw with the well used clichè 'Neither team deserves to lose' said during commentary.
Nick, Watford
Everyone repeating the mantra "This England team WILL go for it" as if, two matches in, the revolution is complete. Surely if we lose another two wickets, we will attempt to crawl towards a draw...which I will also enjoy listening to!

Target 299
Lees chops down into the ground. It bounces up behind him, about a foot or so in front of the stump, and the opener has no idea where it's gone. He goes round in circles - like a dog chasing its tail - before breathing a sigh of relief.
Six from the over, though. A good one for England.

Jonny Bairstow has struggled in the series but if anything this situation is made for him because it's like a one-day game.
Tim Southee's struggles continues as Bairstow plays a glorious drive down to the long-on boundary. Timed like a Swiss watchmaker.

Jem Stone: If England win from here, and they might, it's got to be one of the most incredible Test match victories of all time. What a thing five-day Test cricket can be.
