Alright. I'll let them off

It was a good bouncer. It had to be head high. Great catch from Foakes. Good thinking from Ben Stokes to bring the man in and give Henry the option of taking on the shot.

BREAKTHROUGH!
Stuart Broad strikes in his first over.
He is round the wicket to Matt Henry, targeting the ribs and head of the New Zealand number nine.
It is there for the upper cut, so Henry looks to sway and steer away but guides it to Ben Foakes, who completes a good catch!
The crowd have woken up.

Realistically we need to be batting before lunch.
A change.
Stuart Broad comes on to replace Jack Leach.

Why oh why, when tailenders come in do we just bounce them? Just bowl at the stumps and they will miss it. Fast Yorkers are better than something they can jump out the way of.
Ben
Why do England seem to forget the basics when bowling at the tail…short, short, short….how about targeting the stumps now & again?

That was as close as England have come since the second ball of the day.

England and Ben Stokes persist with the short-ball tactic.
Matt Henry sways expertly again, and ends up on both knees. He's looking rather flexible this morning.
Oh! Catch it! Stokes goes round the wicket, and bangs it into towards the throat of Henry who fends away off a thick edge. There are screams from the fielders, and the crowd, but it drops a few yards away from point.
Is Ollie Pope doubling as the team mascot in this match?!

Daryl Mitchell takes three off Jack Leach. It is all fairly easy for the tourists at the moment.
Four overs till the new ball. England need it.

Remind me what's wrong with bowling at the top of off stump to a number nine (a number 10, really.)

Got my headphones in at my office desk, changed my Teams status to 'In a call' so nobody thinks I'm listening.

Waking up at 6 on holiday to (hopefully) follow the boys to victory!

I'm watching the game whilst on the toilet at work, bliss.

Ben Stokes seems intent on bouncing Matt Henry as another one whistles past the number nine's head.
Stokes goes a tad fuller, but it is still banged in, and Henry punches to the boundary off the back foot again. He's playing nicely.

Just a single off Jack Leach.
He has managed to land them a bit more consistently so far today.
There are six overs to the new ball - it feels like England are quite keen to get that without too much damage being done.
England have created one opportunity in the first 15 minutes.
Unfortunately Joe Root put it down. It was a tough chance.
Just to add to get that Get Involved - if you're at Trent Bridge we want to hear how you've managed to get the day off work.
We're sure there are some outrageous excuses out there.

That's a real horrible one. He plays that well. It was short and cut back. As he retreated, he watched in horror as the ball flew past past his grille. He was flat on his back.

Oh! Good from Ben Stokes.
Short and well-directed at a moving away Matt Henry.
The New Zealander sways and ends up flat on his back and has a little grin and laugh in Stokes' direction.
