A tad short from Jack Leach and Daryl Mitchell and Matt Henry work singles.

Every run makes England's chances of winning less and less.

The crowd applaud him for a fine piece of work on the boundary edge. It may be Stuart's last Test here. There's no Test scheduled here next year. Will he still be playing here in two years?

  4. NZ 232-7published at 71.1 overs

    Lead by 246

Daryl Mitchell gets down and paddle sweeps Jack Leach round the corner.

It looks set to go to the boundary but Nottingham's finest Stuart Broad gets across and down to flick it back in.

A couple added to the total and a healthy round of applause for Broad from the locals.

AerospaceMango: I've a feeling it'll be 17.23 when the winning runs are hit... Or 14.52 when the final wicket falls! One way or another, we're getting a result!

  6. NZ 230-7published at 71 overs

    Lead by 244

Another no-ball from Ben Stokes - I think that is six in this innings. It's something that the skipper will have to work on, in tight games like this it could make the difference.

What a cracking shot that was. It looked a bit stiff that delivery.

  8. NZ 229-7published at 70.4 overs

    Lead by 243

    Oh, shot!

Matt Henry gets up high on his toes and back-foot punches through point for the first boundary of the day.

    Glorious shot.

This first hour is going to be crucial. They'll want to wrap up this innings. Blow these three wickets away. Get batting and chasing 250/260.

  10. NZ 225-7published at 70.1 overs

    Lead by 239

England spread the field to allow Daryl Mitchell to take a single, and he obiliges.

It'll be captain Ben Stokes from the other end.

    Can he inspire England again?

You can afford to be patient. In the field you're tense. You need to get into the day and make it happen.

  13. NZ 224-7published at 70 overs

    Lead by 238

    A maiden to start.

There is a really healthy crowd in Trent Bridge already. Fantastic to see.

It went very quickly. It's a low, quick chance. It did carry.

  15. dropped catch

Henry dropped on eightpublished at 69.2 overs

    Oh no!

Matt Henry looks to defend but it flies off the edge and Joe Root at slip slips it.

It went low, and fast, but England let the first opportunity pass by.

It will be Jack Leach to start...

Speaking at the close last night former England spinner Phil Tufnell and former captain Michael Vaughan were critical of spinner Leach's "inconsistency".

He regularly bowled one or two bad balls each over yesterday to release any pressure on the New Zealand batters.

If Ben Stokes uses him today England will hope he can be more consistent and help to wrap up the tail.

    "If required".

A cheeky declaration from New Zealand?

Daryl Mitchell and Matt Henry to bat all day for a draw?

Let's find out. England and New Zealand are out in the middle.

    It's time. What lies ahead?

  19. 'Everyone is in for a fun day'published at 10:57 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

England bowler Stuart Broad on TMS: "What a Test match so far. Over 1000 runs in first three days and still a chance of all results going into last day. It brings home how fantastic Test match cricket is.

On yesterday's play: "We sort of went with the mindset of don't worry about runs. We back ourselves to chase anything. Just get as many wickets as we can. Those two run-outs were a bit of a bonus."

On what England would be happy chasing: "We're going to go for anything. That's the mindset in this changing room. Whatever comes our way, we're going to look at. I think everyone in this stadium is in for a fun day."

I think anything up to 300 in two sessions. With the mentality and freedom they play. I've just got a feeling that good things are going to happen today.
