  2. Not outpublished at 77 overs

    NZ 197-5

Stokes didn't look overly convinced with his review. He probably should have gone with his instinct. The ball was a fair distance away from the bat, brushing the thigh pad.

It's a bit like a game of poker this because Mitchell is standing there like he hasn't hit it.

  4. Eng reviewpublished at 76.5 overs

    NZ 195-5

Has Daryl Mitchell been strangled down the leg side? Given not out. Ben Stokes reviews. Mitchell looks pretty confident. A huge moment in the game with the new ball just a few overs away.

  5. NZ 193-5published at 76 overs

Too short from Jack Leach. Tom Blundell rocks back and smashes it through cover. It was there to be hit.

The spinner is then interested in a caught behind but it was clearly pad rather than bat.

Once again, this man has clawed the advantage back for his team.

  7. NZ 189-5published at 75 overs

Michell takes a single down to fine leg. Blundell is on his toes and punches off the back foot for one more.

Five overs until the new ball. It seems as if England will stick with Jack Leach for now.

This is the best I've seen England bowl in a long time.

The seamers have bowled the right lengths as a collective, Jack Leach looks so much better than he did in Nottingham and Matthew Potts has been the stand out, absolutely fantastic.

He is a channel bowler. He can bowl in straight lines, has a lovely action, he's clearly very fit and on another day could have had two wickets.

  9. NZ 187-5published at 74.1 overs

Thick inside edge which clatters into Daryl Mitchell's pads. The flood lights are on but it doesn't seem as gloomy as it was before the rain delay.

The players are back out there. Jamie Overton goes through his stretches again. The little break gave the Leeds crowd a chance to head to the bar and not miss any of the action. They're now in full voice. Here we go.

A question for the rain break: does this New Zealand side have the most ever Ls in the team names? WiLLiamson, MitcheLL, BLundeLL...

    John, Pinner

Jack Leach is the first spinner to bowl 25 overs in the first 80 overs of a Leeds Test since Tony Lock in 1961.

I bring you good news. Play will resume in 10 minutes. That's an impressive turnaround.

The umpires are out in the middle chattering away. There is plenty of pointing and deliberating. Good signs.

Josh Land: I live in Castleford, about 20 miles away from Leeds. That shower just went past us 15 mins or so ago. Don’t panic.

The ground staff are comically wrestling against the wind as they bring on the tarpaulin sheet. I couldn't tell you how long this delay will be. The floodlights are on but it doesn't feel like there's ridiculously heavy rainfall out there.

No hover covers here at Headingley, but they do have men in shorts.

    NZ 187-5

Tom Blundell dances down the wicket to Leach to meet the pitch of the ball and almost gets himself into a spot of bother, chopping his bat down in time as the ball squirts into the leg side.

It's raining. And off they go.
