    Well. Are you not entertained?

I apologise I brought such bad luck with me for that stint in the live text chair.

In comes Amy Lofthouse, who I hope can make better sense of that session than me.

It was ordinary technique from the England batters for me. It wasn't as if they were giving it the big yahoo, they were just completely stuffed by the bowler.

You know what they are trying to do so you have to have the technique to keep it out, which they didn't.

We had 95 runs and eight wickets in that afternoon session.

Test cricket but not as we were brought up to watch it.

Brilliant from Wagner. An inswinging yorker which Jonny Bairstow has to dig out.

    Well, folks, that's tea.

We've had eight wickets in that session. Six of which have gone to New Zealand. There has been some sensational bowling from Trent Boult. There has been some woeful batting from most of England's line-up.

As I’ve got older, my knees tend to pop and crack whenever I move. I wonder if this is the sound the ultra-edge is picking up. Not my knees - I meant the batters!

England work a few singles off Tim Southee's over. A welcome uneventful over.

We'll get one more in before tea. What an astonishing session it has been.

I think Wagner thought Bairstow had hit that harder than he did.

It's a good effort though, it's really difficult to know the pace the ball is coming back at you, especially when you are off balance.

  9. dropped catch

Bairstow dropped on 27published at 18 overs

    Eng 82-6

Jonny Bairstow tamely chips it back to the bowler. Neil Wagner, on his follow through, puts out his right hand but it doesn't stick. A decent effort but could have been taken - it wasn't going at any real pace.

There is a little noise on UltraEdge after the ball has gone past the bat.

    A squeaky pad?

Tom Atkinson: All for playing positively but pick your battles. Flat deck, tired bowlers at Trent Bridge, probably worth a go. Hooping round corners in the first 10 overs, probably should bring a block or two to the party.

Another tame shout for lbw but nothing worth reviewing.

Overton averages 20.80 in first class cricket from 82 matches, with one century. England need him to play a dream debut innings here.

There must have been some sort of noise?

  15. Not outpublished at 16.4 overs

    Eng 79-6

How does this happen? The bat is away from the pad or the ground. Everyone hears a noise. But there's no spike on UltraEdge and seemingly gap between bat and ball.

Anyway - not out. Decision overturned.

Overton takes a single through point. Bairstow cuts through the same region for two more. I have no idea what the score will be by the time tea comes round.
