Even number 11 Jack Leach got in on the fun, smacking successive fours from his first two deliveries, before being trapped lbw by Tim Southee.

England all out for 360 with a lead of 31, having been 55-6 at one stage on Friday afternoon.

    Remarkable.

The star of the show though was once again Jonny Bairstow, who looks to be in the form of his life.

He was eventually dismissed for 162 from just 157 deliveries, a remarkable scoring rate that turned the game back in England's favour..

That brought Stuart Broad to the crease, who in the spirit of 'Baz-ball' teed off pretty much from ball one.

His lively 42 from 36 deliveries helped England into a first innings lead, something that seemed improbable yesterday afternoon.

England began the day on 264-6 with Jamie Overton just 11 runs away from a debut Test century.

He got agonisingly close to three figures before edging Trent Boult through to wicketkeeper Daryl Mitchell on 97.

Heartbreak - but still a wonderful innings that helped turn this match around for England.

England's ability to turn this match around after such a bad start reminds me, dare I say it, of the great Australia sides over the past 20 years or so. Great belief all the way down the order.

This is a good game. New Zealand are still in it.

A strike-rate of 4.5 an over - you're getting value for your ticket in Test cricket. It's another enthralling day and this match is positioning itself to be a belter.

Thanks Kal. A sterling job once again.

Yet another enthralling morning. New Zealand will take heart from surviving what was one of those classic 'tricky' sessions before the lunch break.

They are just 18 behind eight sessions left in the match. Whose your money on?

When we started this morning I told you to buckle in and enjoy the ride. I hope you have been entertained.

Here's Tom Mallows to take you through lunch and the next session.

Tidy line from Stuart Broad - forcing Latham to play as a thick outside edge trickles towards gully.

Broad goes fuller and is met with a sweet drive for four. It was just a gentle push.

England's second highest Test wicket-taker then finds a leading edge which beats Ben Stokes at gully.

That's lunch. New Zealand survive that little period. Another fantastic session for England.

Andy: Is it the smartest way to play Test cricket? Once England reached parity they could've changed tack and worked their way to a lead of 100. As it is, the match is effectively reset with England batting last on a pitch that may well turn...

Jack Leach is testing the New Zealand openers. There are also plenty of fielders surrounding the batters, shouting encouragement to their bowler. Each delivery is met with an "ooh" or an "aah".

Interesting to see Leach open the bowling. Usually openers get it in their mind that they're going to be facing seam, so it's not a bad little ploy...

Mrs Griff: Chances of a fifth day? Chances of free entry at Headingley? I'm off on Monday and seriously tempted!

  16. NZ 5-0published at 3 overs

Woah. Broad bowls just back of a length and it jags away sharply. I can only assume it hit a crack.

Broad then bowls a beauty which slices Latham in half, beating the inside edge.

That is the first time a spinner has taken the new ball for England in England since Graeme Swann against West Indies at Lord's in 2009.

Nice line from Leach to Young. There is plenty of bounce and some turn. A fair few foot holes surrounding the crease.

Leach has one which keeps low and skids on. Decent start.

Jack Leach will share the new ball. Interesting. There's a slip, leg slip and short leg in place.

Stuck at home with Covid whilst hubby has gone to the Test with his mates (looking far too happy). Have hung out the washing and the lawn sprinkler is on. Both guaranteed to start the rain!
