Williamson is always very contained and in close, playing the ball almost as if it's part of his body. He wants to play it late and underneath the eyes.

He plays the ball so late, so wristily.

Kane Williamson is playing his way back into form.

It's short and wide from Jack Leach but still needed to be put away, with Williamson playing another of those lovely late cuts for four.

New Zealand's current run rate is 3.76, which is actually very respectable for Test match cricket. It just feels slow compared to England's rather riotous 5.37.

    Brilliant fielding.

Kane Williamson drives down the ground but sub field Harry Dukes dives full stretch to save the boundary.

That's his last contribution too. He rightly looks delighted with himself.

It's a bold strategy, John. Let's see if it pays off for them.

There's a brief bit of excitement as the ball loops up into the hands of Joe Root at first slip, but Tom Latham did not get any bat on it.

There was a bit of turn for Jack Leach there though.

John C Hughes: England deliberately not taking wickets so they can really show off by chasing 450 to win on the last day.

Not the impact Ben Stokes was hoping for.

It's Tom Latham this time who rocks onto his back foot and cuts the ball into the offside for four.

A quick single off the last ball then brings up Latham's 50.

A real gutsy knock from the New Zealand opener who was under pressure after a duck in the first innings.

Jeremy Coney's leaning forward, very engaged with the game.

  10. NZ 78-1published at 22.3 overs

A rueful look on the face of Ben Stokes as Kane Williamson helps it into the onside, an England fielder then makes a mess things on the boundary and the ball bobbles over the rope for another four.

  11. NZ 74-1published at 22.1 overs

Think we can call that a loosener.

Full and wide from Ben Stokes, allowing Kane Williamson to play a glorious drive through the covers for four.

Stay there Matthew, because Ben Stokes has just brought himself into the attack.

I think I’ve found the exact seat in the ground from which I watched the final stages of Ben Stokes' incredible 2019 Ashes innings in hope of triggering something equally dramatic.

He plays very late Williamson, it's his real strength.

That's lovely from Kane Williamson. He waits for a Jack Leach delivery before cutting fine down to third man for four.

It looked risky but he knew what he was doing.

We briefly see a shot of a beer snake being assembled in the Western Terrace.

    It's that time of day.

  16. NZ 62-1published at 21 overs

Jamie Overton is pushing 87 mph as he steams in to Kane Williamson, who does well to duck out of a couple of bouncers before fending on off from short of a length.

This game really has slowed down now, which I suspect suits New Zealand perfectly.

I genuinely think Broady thinks he looks better with a floppy hat on. When the sun's not out he goes with the cap out of embarrassment. You can't be wearing the floppy all the time. He loves the headband too.

  18. NZ 61-1published at 20 overs

Jack Leach continues after drinks as he aims for those footmarks outside Tom Latham's off stump.

Another maiden means Leach is 0-5 from his five overs so far.

I feel we need to apologise to Mo. This is the sort of trivia that excites us up here while we're watching you play.
