I don't know what Daryl Mitchell has done to the England team, but they seem a bit grumpy with him.

It feels like I've grown old whilst they've been batting.

Ben Stokes was seen giving a fairly animated team talk to his players in a huddle to try and get them going.
Jonny Bairstow's cymbals are back too as he looks to whip up the crowd before each Broad delivery.
Broad is going wide of the crease as he tests Daryl Mitchell's technique outside his off stump. The New Zealand batter sees out a maiden to start.
It may be dry but there is a stiff breeze whizzing around Headingley as the players return to the middle.
Stuart Broad will opening the afternoon session.

Danny Geelan: England fail to take wicket before lunch…. Mitchell & Blundell add unbroken 93…. What a surprise! Breaking up these two is harder than breaking up Ant & Dec!

Wonderfully practical use of time Alex. Which has got us thinking - what have YOU been able to do while Mitchell and Blundell have been at the crease?
Completed a tax return? Cleaned the car inside and out? Finally fixed that wonky bookshelf?

In the time that Mitchell and Blundell have been at the crease, I've painted my bathroom.

It has been a chilly morning at Headingley but the sun is out with blue sky and whispy white clouds. Looks like good conditions for batting.
If New Zealand can see off this new ball burst after lunch they could take this match beyond even this swashbuckling England side.

Even as an England fan, I think Mitchell and Blundell deserve at least one of these heroic efforts to be in a winning cause!
Ben
Daryl Mitchell is an equally immovable object. He now has 536 runs in this series, including three centuries.
Mitchell and Blundell have added more than 700 runs at the crease together for New Zealand in this series.
Tom Blundell has added 40 to his overnight score to reach 45 not out at lunch. He has scored 340 runs against England this summer, the most by a New Zealand wicketkeeper in a series.
The only real scare for New Zealand this morning was when Jack Leach thought he had trapped Daryl Mitchell lbw, only for the decision to be overturned on review, much to England's anguish.

New Zealand will have to weather a new ball after lunch but that session will really please a New Zealand team who have had a hard time of it.
This remarkable pair have been impossible to dislodge over the course of this series.
Thanks Tim.
I have to admit my stints have not brought much luck for England so far this Test, but you never know.

I'm off for a bite to eat myself now, so I'll leave you in the capable hands of Tom Mallows - hopefully he has more luck on the England wicket front this afternoon

What a morning this has been for New Zealand. They will be delighted in that dressing room. It's not the flattest of surfaces.
After a bright start for England's bowlers this has categorically been New Zealand's morning.

Mitchell and Blundell have passed 700 runs for the series at the crease together.
Matthew Potts is much fuller. Tom Daryl Mitchell squirts away a single to bring Tom Blundell on strike.
Potts not happy the pitch where he is delivering the ball and hacks at it with the spikes which will give the groundsperson kittens.
The Durham seamer's fourth ball is a little full and on Blundell's legs and he's able to just lean into it and push it for four.
