Root gets in the act too, skipping down before punching Bracewell through mid-off for four more. Neither Pope nor Root is hanging around here. No-one does these days, it seems.

It's Bracewell again - and Pope gives himself room to cut wonderfully through point for four. Footwork like a dancer.

I wonder if that's Tim Southee done for the day? Eight overs is a lot for your opening burst in Test cricket.

There are hoodies, light jackets and jumpers on in the crowd. It's certainly got a bit nippy out there.

Tim Southee has been impressive for New Zealand. For the millionth time, he appeals for lbw. There were two noises. Bat first. But he loves an appeal.

Here are the two wickets to fall for England this afternoon. Both pretty soft.

I don't think it is too far away here for Tim Southee. England need to be careful.

Pope clips into the leg side for a single. Joe Root continuously looks to sweep Bracewell and finally connects with one, taking a couple.

The crowd are still as lively as ever! So much cricket left in the day.

That one was probably worth it. The first one was a shocker.

It is closer. But it clearly hits Root outside the line. Everyone, including Williamson, are laughing. But in reality... New Zealand have blown two reviews within a minute or so.

Not a chance. MILES outside the line.

Joe Root struck on the pads. Not out but Southee and Williamson review. A wasteful one, in my opinion. My instinct says it was outside the line and Root was quite far down the pitch.

Just before the Crawley wicket there was an ugly disturbance in the Western Terrace with some punches thrown. It helped up play just for a second. I wonder if the England opener was distracted at all.
