JayRad: That’s absolutely awful from Crawley. Obviously trying to hit his way back in to form but just completely fell in to the trap.

George Speakman: I think we can all agree that the shot Crawley just played to get out sums up his Test career. Just not good enough and that should be the last we see of him.

Joe Root is the new man in and off the mark with a single.

Bracewell bowls full and Pope helps himself to his third boundary of his knock.

I stand by it. Crawley is not a Test-match batter. Needs some time away from the team.

It's a loose drive from Zak but it's hit the rough and spat out, hitting the shoulder of the bat and looping into the hands of Kane Williamson.

Oh dear - Zak Crawley has played some wonderful shots but once again he fails to make an impact in this series.

It's a soft dismissal. It's not the greatest delivery from Bracewell and Crawley is reaching. The opener chips it to Kane Williamson at cover.

Replays show it pitched in the rough and jumped up on the Crawley. Nevertheless, he had already committed to playing at it. And he didn't really need to.

There's not much swing out there for Tim Southee. But he does get one to rise off the turf and surprise Ollie Pope, who momentarily considered playing before withdrawing his bat.

Pope then plays a textbook cover drive for boundary. Classy. One for the TV highlights which begin at 19:00 BST on BBC Two (shameless plug).

    He's absolutely middled this.

Zak does hit the ball extremely hard when he is playing well. It's great to watch right now.

Time for spin as Michael Bracewell turns his arm. Will New Zealand regret not picking Ajaz Patel? Or can Bracewell prove his worth and selection?

After a couple of failed sweep attempts, Crawley connects cleanly. Past short mid-wicket, racing through the blades of grass, for four.

It's amazing how within two games the mindset of the fans and players has changed completely.

In this situation maybe four months ago, we'd all be thinking 'we'd be three down by now' and that this game could be over tonight.

It's amazing how just a change of attitude has changed so much.

  11. Eng 41-1published at 10 overs

Southee bowls on middle and leg, gifting Pope an opportunity to clip into square leg for a couple.

Southee pitches it up and Pope plays the sweetest of straight drives for a boundary. It makes a real pleasing sound off the bat.

The coach, captain and team will prefer Crawley to be playing like this right now. He has struggled this series but he has been a little bit tentative.

He is getting the scoreboard ticking and his confidence will go through the roof as his innings goes on.

Make that four boundaries in the over for Zak Crawley. A gorgeous drive through the covers. What a turnaround.

It seems me saying Crawley is struggling did the trick. He punches a pitched-up delivery from Boult down to the long-on boundary.

Three boundaries in the over for the Kent man.

Up and over the fielders as Crawley connects with a full, wide delivery. Back-to-back boundaries.

A confidence boosting boundary! Trent Boult goes shorter and it sits up nicely for Crawley. A crisp pull through mid-wicket.

New Zealand try their luck once again in changing the ball. It goes through the ring.

Oh my - Zak Crawley is struggling out there. Tim Southee bowls a wobble seam and the England opener plays an expansive drive. It goes through the gate, over the stumps and England run a bye.
