While the ball is swinging this is the danger period. Once it has stopped swinging you would think the guys down the order can be more destructive, though you don't want to leave them too much to do.

  2. Eng 29-2published at 4.5 overs

A lucky escape for Jason Roy as he flip Hardik Pandaya to leg but spoons the ball up. It drops between two fielders and he's safe.

A perfect response from Hardik Pandya after being cut for four the previous ball. Dawid Malan was just looking to break free there.

    Malan b Hardik 21 (Eng 27-2)

Dawid Malan with a beautiful late cut, using the pace of the ball off Hardik Pandaya, to guide the ball to the boundary for four. But next ball his stumps are knocked over.

Malan attempts to open the face of the bat to run it down to the vacant third region, but inside edges it on to the wickets.

England stuttering a little bit here.

Here's how Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Jos Buttler. What this video doesn't show is the setup from Bhuvneshwar. He bowled four outswingers to Jason Roy, then caught Buttler slightly off his guard with a wicked inswinger.

  7. Eng 22-1published at 3.5 overs

A tad too short from Arshdeep Singh with his fourth ball and the left-handed Dawid Malan transfers his weight on to his back foot and pulls him for four. Next ball Malan crisply square drives him through point for back-to-back boundaries.

Arshdeep Singh is just the second India bowler to begin their T20 international career with a maiden. The previous bowler was Ajit Agarkar in India's first ever T20 match against South Africa back in 2006.

  9. Eng 14-1published at 3.1 overs

Arshdeep Singh, who is a lithe 23-year-old with a nice smooth bowling action, is whacked high in the air by Dawid Malan out towards cow corner. It's come down with snow on, but the fielder is unable to make up enough ground to get there in time and the ball thuds into the turf. Two more to the score.

  10. Eng 11-1published at 3.0 overs

Two slips in place for Bhuvneshwar Kumar's final ball to Dawid Malan. He nudges it off his hips for a single to keep the strike.

  11. Eng 9-1published at 2.3 overs

England's coaching staff on the balcony still look fairly relaxed despite this start from India. Likewise their players in the dugout.

Dawid Malan shuffles across his stumps and gets off the mark with a whip into the leg side off Bhuvneshwar Kumar for four.

  12. Eng 5-1published at 2.0 overs

More smart bowling from Arshdeep Singh, who angles his fifth ball across to Jason Roy which swings away from him this time. He follows it up with another inswinger which strikes Roy on the pad. The debutant appeals for lbw, but that was swinging too much and missing leg.

Rarer than hens' teeth. That was a T20 maiden.

India will be very aware of how destructive Jos Buttler has been open the batting in T20s this year so that's a big wicket for them.

  14. Eng 3-1published at 1.2 overs

Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh, who is making his debut, is busy on his way to the crease. More swing through the air.

Jason Roy unhappy with some movement behind the bowler so we a short delay. He advances down the pitch to an inswinger from Arshdeep but it's a fresh air shot.

    India's fielders are pumped.

That ball really did curve in from outside off-stump. It did him all ends up. Wonderful bowling.

    A huge wicket.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 0.5 overs

    Buttler b Bhuvneshwar 0 (Eng 1-1)

Gone first ball. Huge wicket for India.

Jos Buttler had been stood at the non-striker's end watching the ball hoop away from Jason Roy and then Bhuvneshwar Kumar gets one to swing back into the new England captain and goes between bat and pad.

The ball clips Buttler's pad and into the stumps. That was a fine, intelligent, piece of bowling.

  18. Eng 1-0published at 0.4 overs

Lots of swing for Bhuvneshwar Kumar with this new white ball. Jason Roy shuffles across his crease and dabs down before setting off for a brisk single.

Phil Slatter: England are going to have to bat like the Test side to win this.

  20. Eng 0-0published at 0.2 overs

Two good balls from Bhuvneshwar Kumar to start. He beats the outside edge of Jason Roy's bat with a ball which swung after it beat the bat. Then the England opener defends well.
