A huge deflection and a good catch by Jos Buttler, but that was smart bowling from Moeen Ali. He had been a bit fuller, saw Rohit Sharma sweep him, so then got him playing on the back foot.

The England spinner skids one in a bit quicker and Rohit Sharma, on the back foot, can only feather the ball through to Jos Buttler.

Jos Buttler is really good at reading the game and making tactical decisions. However, this England team are pretty much on autopilot. He doesn't need to reinvent the wheel.

  6. Ind 20-0published at 2 overs

There's a stifled appeal from from Reece Topley as he looks to shape one into Rohit Sharma's pads. Nothing give though, and Sharma flicks the final ball of the over into the on-side to maintain India's momentum.

England are going to spin early - here's Moeen Ali.

  7. Ind 18-0published at 1.3 overs

Rohit Sharma is in the mood.

First, he clips a full delivery from Reece Topley off his pads for four, before crashing the ball through the off-side for back-to-back boundaries.

It will be a runfest with the makeup of the two teams. The power England have and the exciting talent India have. The outfield looks like it will race away and the pitch looks good.

  9. Ind 9-0published at 1 overs

Rohit Sharma plays the ball into the onside for another single, with Ishan Kishan cutting square for two to complete a decent first over for India.

Another left-armer Reece Topley will open at the other end for India.

This is the new approach from Rohit Sharma. He used to be someone who took his time initially then looked play shots, now it's bang and have a go first over.

  11. Ind 6-0published at 0.3 overs

Rohit Sharma nudges the first ball just backward of point to get India off the mark. Left-hander Ishan Kishan repeats the trick with the next delivery.

Sharma then decides to step things up, striding forward and slapping Curran wide of mid-off for the first boundary of the innings. Good shot.

Sam Curran has the ball in hand for England. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan will open the batting for India.

I think with how settled the team is and the way they have been able to identify talent it should be an easy transition. Knowing Jos as I do he is so astute at breaking down and managing games of cricket. He doesn't have to rewrite the script and will be happy to roll on the back of what Eoin Morgan achieved just with his own spin.

There’s lots of India support here. A group were shouting some lighthearted trash-talk from the hotel balcony.

“What was the Test score?” is the reply from some England fans.

The ground looks an absolute picture as the teams make their way onto the field.

The early evening sun is beating down with plenty of blue sky and only a few wispy white clouds.

    A perfect evening for cricket.

I think it's noticeable that death bowling has been discussed in the media recently. England need to nail that in the next few weeks. They need to know who their bankers are at the death heading into the T20 World Cup.

India have struggled batting first and understanding what is a good score, so they maybe want to work on that before the T20 World Cup.

  18. Debut for Singhpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 7 July 2022

There's a new face in the India team with left arm pace bowler Arshdeep Singh making his T20 debut.

The 23-year-old was presented with his first cap by captain Rohit Sharma.
