You can see how fast Nortje is bowling because Malan, the first slip, is only just inside the circle.
A tidy over from Anrich Nortje but there is some good running from Jonny Bairstow and Phil Salt twice get back for a couple.
There are both rapid. They could run South Africa ragged if they get going in the next few overs.

That is exactly where Ngidi wants to be but Salt must be in some touch to be playing that on top of the bounce to mid-off.

That is absolutely Jonny Bairstow's strong suit - square through the off-side. Terrific shot.
Width and length from Lungi Ngidi and Jonny Bairstow back-foot punches through the covers for a glorious four.
He and Phil Salt then exchange singles before Bairstow is beaten by a brilliant in-swinger from Ngidi. That only just went over leg stump.
Ngidi puts his hands on his head.

I think Salt, who pulled off a terrific dive - you can still see the skid marks across the turf - was in. Yes, he was, and it was a confident shot.
Eeeek!
That is close.
Phil Salt sets off a quick single after driving to mid-off. A direct hit may have him in trouble, but an excellent full-length dive sees him make his ground.
He's got a big opportunity here, replacing Ben Stokes, on his home ground.
It was fun while it lasted...

It came off the bottom of his bat and it just twisted in his hand there. He had been hitting it quite well.

Roy is walking off looking at his bat. It wasn't out of the middle and it did sound a bit clunky.
Roy c Pretorius b Nortje 14 (Eng 22-1)
Ah!
Jason Roy looks to go again and charges at Anrich Nortje.
He tries to whip through mid-wicket but it comes off the bottom of the bat and straight to Dwaine Pretorius.
That makes the start a bit more even.

Nortje has banged it in short and Roy has just used the pace. I wonder if South Africa have got carried away with the bounce a bit.

England are off to a flyer.
Four more.
Anrich Nortje goes short and Jason Roy just paddle-pulls to the square leg boundary.
You can't bowl there either, Anrich.
Anrich Nortje is on and straight up to 92mph.
He gives Jason Roy some width and it's cracked away to the point boundary.
Don't bowl there, Anrich.

I'm not sure he was aiming to get the ball quite that fine but it wasn't a good ball. It was short and wide, and Bairstow could have put it wherever he wanted. Poor ball and the result is four runs.
As is often the case in white-ball cricket the final ball ruins the over.
Lungi Ngidi offers Jonny Bairstow some width and the England opener slashes it over the slips for four.
Decent start for England this.

Ngidi is no slouch, he's got some pace and Roy signals to Bairstow that that one climbed a fair bit.
Jonny Bairstow gets a rather large edge off Lungi Ngidi, but it is well wide of slip and away down to third for a single.
Jason Roy comes down the pitch at the next two balls and has a massive swipe. The England opener is indicating there's a little bit of bounce there.
