Thank you for staying with us during this frustrating day. Sadly the great British weather was the only winner today.

We'll be back with you tomorrow as England women try and make it a clean sweep in the white ball leg of their multi-format series against South Africa.

    Bye for now!

Don't worry though, there's still plenty of cricket to come in the next few days.

England women play South Africa in the third and final T20 tomorrow at Derby at 18:30 BST, and you can watch that game live on BBC Two as well as following along with us here.

The men's T20s against the same opposition then starts on Wednesday from Bristol at 18:30 BST.

Quinton de Kock played some mouth-watering shots in his innings and carried on with that form after play resumed.

But only six overs were managed before the rain that eventually ended the game started to fall again.

Then Adil Rashid got the second wicket, the big one of Durham centurion Rassie van der Dussen, before the rain fell for the first time.

A quick recap on the (limited) action we were able to see today.

South Africa won the toss, chose to bat, and started nicely before David Willey took the first wicket of Janneman Malan.

It's a huge shame because this game, the series decider, was bubbling up very nicely for a good conclusion.

Spare a thought for Quinton de Kock too, who is left stranded on 92 not out.

Conditions haven't improved, if anything they've got worse.

The full covers are on and now protecting the entire square.

With South Africa 159-2, the rain continues to fall and all of the covers are now on the square. We will be back to bring you any news of inspections or resumption times as we have it.

The ground staff have put down the heavy sheets. It suggests they're expecting it to be a pretty heavy rainfall.

    It's deeply frustrating for everybody.

A reminder that the last rain break reduced the overs to 45 a side, so this one will take some more off and we'll let you know as soon as we know anything.

    Oh the great British summer.

Frustration for South Africa, who were ticking along very nicely indeed in that short passage of play.

Frustration too for the spectators who were being treated to a masterclass by Quinton de Kock, who remains not out on 92.

Good start after the rain break from South Africa. They took a couple of overs to get into the swing of things. Since then both Markram and De Kock have played their shots.

  20. SA 157-2published at 27 overs

    De Kock 91, Markram 23

    Spin continues with Liam Livingstone.

He's greeted by a bit more tradition from Quinton de Kock with a cover drive straight out of the textbook with the same result: four.

He plays the same shot for two next ball to take him into the 90s.
